Taxi available in Geneva airport?

Hi all,

If arriving late in Geneva airport. Any taxi line waiting there? How much would it cost to downtown?

Or shall I call in advance to make a reservation? What is the number then?

Thanks!

When you walk out of the terminal from arrivals there's a taxi stand right there. Impossible to miss.

There's also free train/bus tickets next to the baggage claim area for Geneva public transit. I usually take the free option (unless traveling on an expense account) as taxis are expensive. I took a taxi from the airport a few months ago and I think it cost about CHF 40 to get to the centre - which is a lot considering how close the airport is to Geneva.

Thank you so much for the information!

Thinking I will be having two big luggages amounts to about 30KG, handbag, backpack. Taxi might be a better choice?

Also i heard quite serious stealing happens in the Geneva airport. Is it true? Better be careful..

1) the last train from aiport to geneva city (5min) is at 00.12

2) public transport (including train) is FREE from airport to Geneva city if you hold a valid boarding pass/plane ticket.

3) Taxi: always there, you can't miss them as mentioned by a previous poster.

Taxi would be easier yes, but the train is free, frequent and a 2 minute walk from arrivals, and train journey itself no more than 5 minutes.

The only issue is sometimes the trains have quite high steps to get up when you are with luggage, but as they depart from the station, they are there for a long time standing still so no issues rushing to get all luggage on.

Don't miss the free ticket machine, on your left as you leave baggage claim.

I am not sure if the taxi's are regulated for trips between city and airport (I suspect not), but cabs in Switzerland are very expensive compared to most other places.

Ah, yes, the steps in the train can be troublesome. I think I will take the cab this time.. Thanks again!!

Stealing is a very common thing in airports due to the carelessness of people assuming everyone is nice and friendly.

Because people are in an environment they don't know they let their guard down which make them easy prey for thieves.

Just be careful, don't let your luggage out of sight. Use locks when possible.

I sometimes go as far as locking my bags to the seat while waiting for a plane because I often travel with expensive equipment.

What difference does it make ? Because somebody else pays you take expensive transport, because you pay you go cheap....

How do locks prevent somebody stealing your bags ?

Locking your bags to your seat; I guess that's one way of drawing attention to yourself and letting everybody know that you have something worthwhile stealing.

Must be nice to know when you arrive late at night in the dark in unfamiliar surroundings.
