I am opening an account in Interactive Brokers and am asked to provide TIN (Taxpayer Identification Number). I hold Permit C.

Where can I find it?

I’d put your AHV / AVS number, as it’s the unique social security number used across Switzerland.

It’s on your medical insurance card.

It's on your tax forms.

It is NOT your AHV number!

Separate tax identification numbers apply to individuals and legal entities:

  • The AHV insurance number for natural persons resident in Switzerland (e.g. all private individuals);
  • The company identification number (UID) for legal entities resident in
    legal entities resident in Switzerland (e.g. public limited companies) and other legal entities.
