Why on earth did they stop vaccinating for that? Yet introduced the Chicken Pox vaccine - think they had it right in my day, glad I got Chicken Pox and not TB.

They thought they’d pretty much eliminated TB in Western Europe so rather stupidly stopped the vaccination programme.
TB is however still quite prevalent in other parts of the world and due to international travel and immigration has made a comeback here.

I never understood the logic of stopping it. I hated the vaccination at the time but the alternative is far far worse.

There were cases of TB in the army here recently too.

It’s coming back full swing.

Have they eliminated it due to the good living conditions or the vaccine? Because in the Eastern Europe it wasn’t eliminated inspite of the vaccination given in the hospital in the first days of baby’s life.

Wow. As a 50s child, I was given BCG (tuberculosis), skin-scratch smallpox, DTP (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis), and Salk IPV (injectable polio), followed by the Sabin sugar cubes. My parents, both doctors, were very pro-vaccine.

Sorry for the pickiness but airplanes are full both ways. So, tourists from here are are as important as immigrants.

That’s why I said international travel. I don’t understand the point you’re trying to make.

Immigrants are also part of international travel, so why single out?

I looked into this and there are many antibiotic resistant strains in Eastern Europe - Russia, Ukraine and Romania especially and a lot of vaccines weren’t given and early detection of TB missed during the COVID pandemic.

The vaccine is more effective at precenting infantile TB but not very effective in preventing pulmonary TB in adults.

The war in Ukraine hasn’t helped either.

Tourists (which is what I meant by international travel) travel in all directions and they are not the same as immigrants.

Both are important factors in the spread of TB.

I still don’t understand your issue with what I wrote.

I believe Russia had problems with TB long before COVID.

Same with hepatitis.

I remember lining up for that high pressure shot gun thing at school back in the sixties.
