Teen Therapy Support Groups??

Hi, I’m looking for teen support groups for depression, anxiety, and self harm coping skills around Geneva. Preferably we’re looking for DBT groups but I’m not sure if that something that’s really known around here but yeah. I’m really hoping to find DBT groups for my 15 year old but if not any kind of support group would be fine. Does anyone know of a DBT group or support group for teens around Geneva?

Did you try the school psychologist ? They should be well-connected with youth services...

Or here ?

Or a school social worker in the local area ?

Or Pro Juventute ?

well she’s only here for the summer and she goes to school back in the US. She’s just visiting, but we think it would be very beneficial for her to be in a group since she won’t be able to be in her regular programs she’s usually in back in America.

What languages does she speak?

english. She speaks only enough french to get by for a little bit, but she’d need a translator if she’s trying to have a full conversation with someone.

Irrespective of your or her church affiliation, or beliefs, or not, you might ask here:

https://westlakechurch.com/youth/

Either just to socialise, or you could contact the office to ask if they know, within their network, where you could find a more therapy-based group.

Otherwise, I think you might look at individual therapy. Just be sure to be very sure about the costs, and whether her insurance from the USA will cover those.

Disclaimer:

I don't know these therapists; just found them by googling.

So you want to find an English speaking therapy group for 4-6 weeks.....

You intend to take a vulnerable 15 year old girl to a foreign country, where she does not speak the language, away from her support system and dump her in ‘some kind of support group’ for four to six weeks.... for who’s benefit? The very fact that you see a need for such a requirement should raise a red flag!

Yes, Jim, I wondered about that, too. And how competent the adults are, there and here. Yet we do not know the circumstances. It could be that the situation the girl has in her home country is worse than if she spent the summer here. Or perhaps that this trip is something the girl herself really wants or thinks would help her.

No. she wanted to come here to see me (her mom) and her siblings. But things have still been hard for her. We gonna try out a therapist we found but she’s also wants to be in a support group. She was heavily engaged in DBT groups back in the states so that’s why she greatly prefers to be in a DBT group. This was all her idea. She wants this.

yeah, hopefully.

were gonna look into that group, we’re gonna see if we can afford it since it’s 150 chf per session.

Isn't WestLake == GEMS? Hasn't GEMS recently gone bust?

Just wonder if it's still up and running.. Hmmm

Edit : No it's a different GEMs.. I thinks..

In the meantime, local Anglophone Girl Scouts in GE need a volunteering hand and might provide a nice network of helping friends in return.
