teething

hi, my 2month old is teething already and in alot of pain! I give him bonjela (a teething gel) but that doesnt seem to have any effect plus now he has started to chew his hand constantly because of it which can't be good. The teething rings are too big for his mouth as he's only 2months and he's getting very irritable indeed. he went from sleeping through from 11.30-7.30 and now wakes up at 4am. Can anyone recommend anything else i can use? any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Use a bagel.

Chisel and a mallet?

a bagel?? huh?! bit odd! he is only 2months! haha

Poor you, I feel for you.

When my ''Little Princess'' ( ) began teething, the doc recommended that gel who didn't do anything. I tried on me and it really doesn't do much. My mom send me some Oragel from Canada.

If you can't find or get some, PM me, I'll send you one I didn't used yet. I can always get some more from Canada.

I know how powerless it makes us feel to see them suffering!

Hi

We got my little boy a Swiss amber bead teething necklace. You can buy them in the chemists (and yes, they won't break / strangle them etc.).

He had no trouble with his teeth apart from the usual red cheeks and bum. The beads are supposed to have healing powers (OooooooOOOOooo!), but I mostly noticed that he liked to gnaw on them when his gums gave him grief.

Cheers

Jim

You could try something with a -caine in it: novocaine, cocaine, etc.,... Ask at your local drugstore. They also sell a non-medicated version that seemed to work for our kids.

The Swiss (and others) seem to think an amber necklace (Bernstein) around the kid's neck is effective as well.

Yeah but it's been used for hundreds of years. See here

You can also try omeopatic teething globules. not sure they do much but they distract the little one for a while.

You find them in the pharmacy!

Ciao

How do you know he is teething? My 4 month old sucks/gums her hands all the time and has done for a couple of months but she doesn't have any teeth yet. She also dribbles all the time. The waking at 4am could be due to a growth spurt rather than teething too.

What seems to be recommended here for teething is amber . I have no idea if it works or not though but if anything it's probably small enough for his mouth,

Hello,

Because your baby is so young perhaps you could try frozen teething rings or frozen damp washcloths. When he is a little older try Violet Root......it works wonders.

Poor you! I know what you are going through. When my little one was teething, my Swiss Mother-in-Law got her a teething gel called Osa and also the teething globules called Osanit. You can get these from any pharmacy. The teething gel is made from plant extracts and is sugar free. I covered her teething ring with it and she kept biting on it and I think that did it! Not so sure about whether the globules worked although my MIL swears by it!

Other than that, lots of cuddles

Don't worry too much though, it gets better

xx

Well, i can actually see the teeth underneath the gums, he dribbles alot, irritable crying (not normal for him), not sucking his hand actually gnawing/chewing, trys to chew everything. all signs of teething. thanks for the amber advice!

no bagel then?

Thankyou very much, that is very sweet of u. did u find the oragel worked well then? i will have a search around and if i cant get hold of any i may well take u up on that offer. Thanks again

Hi,

I used Osanit (both globules and gel) for my baby, and it helped a bit. Homeopathic globules of Arnica also help (easy to get in every pharmacy).

However, if your baby is in such a pain, many doctors would recommand Dafalgan (paracetamol) for a few days until the tooth is out. Of course I'm not in favour of over-medicating children, but we adults would surely take a painkiller if we were in such a pain, no?

Well, frozen bagels or carrots are sometimes recommanded to help teething babies. But you have to be very careful with that: a soon as the tooth is out, the baby can chop off a bit of the stuff and choke on it. So use only under close supervision!

It works wonderfully! This is the best thing ever! I didn't get anything from OSA of the amber necklace and other stuff from here. This is why my mom send Oragel for me. And this is a good product..... I tried to open it with my teeth while we were out and I got a good amount in my mouth! I had my mouth numb for a while! Good stuff I tell ya!

If you don't have one already get Sophie the Giraffe

I just learned at the Easter Rappi beer and cheese extravaganza that this is the oldest baby toy still in production. Seems to be universally loved by children and is excellent for teething- ours latched on to hers at the flea market and it went straight in her mouth ( ), and she's not one to randomly put things in her mouth.

Ice isn't very good as it causes blood to rush to the gums and the pain is worse after the cold wears off.

Good luck!

What's wrong with good old fashioned drugs?
