So I guess they call it telefon instead of handynummer .
The other day when I was in VALIANT bank, they ask for my telefon and I ask him if he wants my 'Handynummer' and he said what? (*with a smirkface*)
Handy is German.
Here it's Natel.
Tom
I always learn the hard way. Hehehe.
yeah, but he is an idiot as he knows exactly what it means....
Actually I think use of "Natal" is now dying. Most people I know use "Handy".
Personally I hate both.
Only old gits, who have been dragged screaming into the 21st century call their old Nokias 'Natels' - everyone else calls them Handys.
(a bit like Americans still calling them 'cells' )
Great story.
I call it my Mobilnummer (or numéro mobile). Because that's what it is. "Handy" just sounds so friggin odd and no-one in Romandie would know what you're talking about anyway.
Well, they would, but wouldn't want to admit it.
Händynummer
I feel particularly awkward asking anyone I don't know extremely well for a handy. in any language.
I predict that 'iPhone' will become the generic term (much like Hoover for vacuum) - despite never succeeding at the market domination for that Apple had hoped.
What is an iphone?
A less self absorbed version of the mePhone.
Not around here they don't. Nobody would have a clue what you were talking about if you said 'Handy' around here.
They either use Natel or 'portable' here.
'Portable' down here in Geneva too.
Both Natel and Handy died out years ago.... plus Handy is the name for a range of Migros dishwasher products, which used to cause confusion and not a little mirth!
I still say natel. But then i still call Manor Placette and Globus Grand Passage. And so do most of my friends!!
a kind of Handy
Handy sounds ridiculous... so I refuse to say it.
I always give my mobile number anyway when someone asks for my phone number.
..... and the orally challenged call it this:
In the UK the term mobile is getting used less and less, now that it normal to use your mobile much more than a land line. Now it is just referred to as "My Phone" & "My Phone Number" .... or "My iPhone" for apple users.
