Hi everyone - we are moving back to Zurich after a 5 year stint in London. As ever, the initial stress is to find a place to live.
We have currently narrowed our search areas to Glattbrugg, Oerlikon, Seebach, Kreis 6, Hoengg, Uster and Meilen.
We are not at all familiar with Glattbrugg and Seebach. Can anyone share their experiences on living there. We have a 2.5 year old, so will need a family friendly environment. We intend for this to be a stepping stone flat, before we move to the suburbs in 2017 for school.
Thanks in advance!
I live in Seebach and it is wonderful.
The Seebach tramstop is a central location for recycling (recycle aluminium and oil, The Cargo tram and ETram comes once a month), there is a large Migros and Coop Pronto.
With respect to noise and crime I havent experienced any negativity. The neighbours are quiet and the people living in the area consist of elderly and middle aged people who are very friendly .
It is 10 minutes away from the Airport so makes it very convenient when you need to fly out and are running late for your flight.
Thanks Tigereyeali.
I will keep Seebach in our search :-)
I think Glattbrugg is also OK.
I never actually lived there myself but have been all over, both looking at appartments and also for work reasons. Glattbrugg is fairly cosmopolitan, in terms of people there coming from all over, many of them from the former Yugoslavian countries. The town is unpretentious and more affordable than many other places. There are plenty of local shops and also both tram and train services to Zürich. One down side may be the proximity of the airport (but this depends very much on your precise location, some parts are worse affected than others). The up side is that taxes are low.
Just to add to glattbrugg,
-ve as mentioned flight noise could be a deal breaker. But some of the newer/renovated apartments are better in insulating the noise
-ve Near to Schaffhauserstrasse could be noisy
-ve Glattbrugg is under Zone 121 so if you plan to commute into the City (Zone 110) via public transport then it will little bit expensive comepared to other areas in your list
-ve depending on where you work, there could be less connections via public transport as it is in Zone 121
+ve Rents are comparitively low as i observed
+ve Close to airport which makes it easier if you travel often with luggage and Airport shopping open 365 days
