I am finally going to buy my first car in Switzerland. The car I want to buy is located in Ticino and I will have to go get it as it's from a private owner.
As far as I understood, to register it I will need to bring proof of insurance and the old car documents to the STVA.
There are some steps that are not clear to me yet and it would be great if you could help me to clarify them!
1- Once I purchase the car, will the old owner just hand over the documents to me? Does he need to "void" the papers first or does that happen when I register the car?
2- The old owner is going to remove his plates from the car and I will need to register it in order to get mine. I read that I can request temporary plates. What is not clear is if these plates can be requested BEFORE to register the vehicle under my name (and then drive it to my address) or AFTER the registration, in order to be able to drive it while they "produce" and send me my plates.
My goal is of course to avoid one trip to the location where the car is now.
Every extra suggestion is of course very welcome
