Tesla EV discussion

California 2024 vehicle sales results now in.
The number of EVs sold in 2024 was roughly the same as in 2023 but Tesla sales fell by 11.6% in the state vs a nationwide fall of 5.6%
California registered 31.1% out of all national EV registrations
The most EVs sold in California were the Tesla Model Y and 3; Cybertruck was the sixth most sold.
Overall the most sold vehicle was the Toyota Camry.

During the end-of-year sales results presentation, Elon mentioned a self-driving problem with Chinese bus lanes due to an automatic penalty for entering one at the wrong time.

Interference in politics has its price

Tesla Inc. registrations plummeted 63% last month in France, the European Union’s second-biggest market for battery-electric vehicles.

The manufacturer registered only 1,141 cars in January, the fewest since August 2022, according to French industry association La Plateforme Automobile. Tesla underperformed the overall industry and total EV sales, which dipped 6.2% and 0.5%, respectively.

Could be a result of that Nazi like salute. But just guessing.

Not just in France.

That happened Jan 20, too late in the month to be the (main) cause though of course it didn’t help.

The “only AfD can save Germany” retweet was a bit before Christmas. Also, the whole twitter drama started on 2023. So, plenty of material available.

Germany reported 3,152 @Tesla sales and 1.5% market share for January.

Year-to-date -26% over the same period last year

We will see how it goes. The new Model Y is now „here“ though just how many people in Germany will be forking over 60k Cash is another question.

The „Salute“ thing certainly wasn’t helpful. Not at all.

Looks like I quoted false numbers, I hope these are correct

Tesla’s vehicle registrations in Germany fell 59.5% year over year in January to 1,277 units, following an overall decline across most European markets

I don’t think the new Model Y is going to make much difference, its basically the same Highland refresh as the Model 3 (ventilated seats, very slight increase in economy and tiny rear passenger screen) which didn’t move sales a jot.

Two years ago the Model Y was sitting pretty with lots of tail wind from poor competition, $7,500 federal tax incentives and a largely benign Elon Musk. Today its a very different climate.

Plus the AfD hates foreigners and electric cars so Elon is courting the wrong group for Tesla sales

Sounds like a double whammy!

It‘s „missing“ new battery technology, 800V and some people would prefer a head up display.

My guess is that 800V and a new battery might arrive in 2026.

Sadly, they wasted too much time on the Cybertruck (IMHO).
