In the first three months of this year, BYD sold 300,114 fully electric vehicles, up 13.4% over Q1 2023.
CEO Elon Musk’s Tesla electric car company reported it delivered 387,000 vehicles so more than BYD but 9% down over Q1 2023.

I’ve had a Polestar 2 as a rental from Hertz (UK) for almost a week and have to say its an excellent vehicle, and in my opinion far superior in build quality, comfort and features compared to a Tesla Model 3. It feels like a premium European car in a way the Tesla just cannot match. And the locked in radar adaptive cruise control reminds you of what you are missing with Tesla’s flawed camera only system which doesn’t work in bad weather or pitch darkness. It still boggles the mind that Tesla got rid of parking sensors and the radar module which just worked.
The main cons of the Polestar are cost and efficiency (it gets the same range with a 78 KW battery as my Model Y with a 60 KW battery). However if you can get a good new or second hand deal, then its worth considering.
And I guess that means the end for Elon Musk and Tesla

From the Tesla website:
Decline in volumes was partially due to the early phase of the production ramp of the updated Model 3 at our Fremont factory and factory shutdowns resulting from shipping diversions caused by the Red Sea conflict and an arson attack at Gigafactory Berlin.

I also know you will continually try to discredit Tesla and Elon Musk with misleading information for ever. You are simply not prepared to accept what he has achieved and how. Each and to their own I guess.
I will repeat what I have said before.
It’s incredible what he’s done and does, I have never seen an individual achieve what he has despite constant attacks from the most supposed powerful people.
It’s clear he has respect from the people who count, you and your like are rightly meaningless.
He is succeeding and doesn’t need the likes of me to defend him.
There is no need for tribalism, I am a Tesla owner but by no means a fan boy. I obviously did the calculation and decided on balance that it was the best for me but it doesn’t prevent me from admiring other cars or being critical of Musk.
FWIW I do admire his vision and believe EVs would never have gotten off the ground as quickly without him pushing the battery tech, charging infrastructure and making a car that looks and drives like a normal vehicle and not a milk float or mobility vehicle. Where he’s flawed is the constant tinkering and cost cutting, often overruling his own engineers, as well as over promising and under delivering on things like FSD.
I don’t understand the narrative of attacks and hardship when a significant fraction of equity is owned by institutions such as Vanguard Group, Blackrock and the like. These guys literally put their money, and possibly our retirement money, on Tesla. Not even other car manufacturers “attack” Tesla. If any, the critics are a powerless minority. Only risks I see for Tesla is complacency and regression towards the mean. They had a nice hot hand since Roadster v1 times. Issue is that the longer a winning streak lasts, the higher the chances it simply ends one day.
Back to EVs, this year starts an EV cup sponsored by Hyundai. They will race with a light weigth version of the Ioniq 5 N. Technology is getting better, but car is still 1970 kg. ICEs in touring car competitions are between 1100-1200 kg. Let’s see how fun it is. First race by end of April in Singapore.
There is no decline in volumes, the decline is in deliveries.
1Q 2024 Tesla production volume was 433,371 vehicles, deliveries only 387,000.
Your excuses about the decline in Tesla production volumes is nothing to do with the Tesla decline in deliveries. In Q1 2024 they produced around 50,000 more vehilces than they could sell and deliver so no production volume problem. Your excuses are just as untrue as your claim all China auto sales are down yoy.
You are the one providing misleading information, all the information I have provided is backed by credible sources that I quoted unlike your untrue claims.
It is certainly incredible that Elon turned Twitter into an altright sewer
The Tesla Fanboys are like the Apple Fanboys (quite often the same people) - they feel that any criticism of their product/lifestyle purchases are a criticism of themselves and their choices.
It must be a bit like being in a weird cult but it means you can’t have a meaningful discussion.
For a start- why do they need their own discussion thread? Who on earth thought that was necessary?
Why not a generic EV thread? Perhaps I’ll start one The EV discussion thread or perhaps, The EV (but not Tesla) discussion thread.
Probably because it was a carry over from the old forum.
And when it was started there probably wasn’t many other EV’s on the market.
What is similar to the whole iPhone Android drama is that iPhone owners have one unified device whereas Android is fragmented over 1000 different handset makers.
So someone driving a Hyundai Ioniq 5 is going to have a very different experience to a Ford Mustang Mach E, which in turn is completely different to a Tesla.
So going by your logic, we shouldn’t have one cooking thread as someone eating some French fries is going to have a very different experience to someone eating oysters?
Fair enough, maybe a mod can remove “Tesla” from my thread title so we can discuss all EVs here.
No. Keep it.
I may open a new, more general thread though as there are some interesting new EVs soon on the market and it would be good to discuss them without the thread having a bias to one particular manufacturer.
Wait a min. Is this not a general EV thread? I understood the title as Tesla/EV discussion ![]()
Seeing Tesla don’t do the required QC at the factory, 5 dollars for a DIY checklist might be a wise investment for prospective buyers:

Why pay 5 bucks when there are plenty for free on the web?

Reminds me due to massive Tesla overproduction in Q1 there are substantial price cuts on some models in some geographies, good news for anyone who wants to buy one.
You have a habit of comparing apples to
oranges and picking out bits of comments and using them to your agenda in a misleading way but this is bizzare. I‘m surprised you haven’t quoted Reuters yet
Are you ok? I also talk to myself, but honestly, I am yet to find myself arguing with…myself…in public.
No other motor companies don’t directly attack Tesla, but some are not buying into EVs and make comments to try and slow down or influence it’s introduction. Eg GM or Japanese manufacturers.
There’s definitely going to be EVs that beat Tesla. Not everyone prefers a Tesla. The Volvo is getting good reviews. There’s multitudes of Chinese that will sure come west. It depends on all sorts as to how successful they are.
But the German manufacturers are sure worried. They have to effectively ramp down current production of petrol cars and replace them with EVs. That’s massive.
It’s kind of spannend to be around in such a change. Like horse drawn to engines. And apparently similar comments are being made. But I can’t confirm. ![]()
I have my best conversations talking to myself but you can guess who that’s for. That was quick ![]()
