The Android beasts thread, 2015 edition

Update on the Saygus V2 "Dreamphone": Saygus says that in addition to all the other features, the phone will now also come with Lollipop 5.1 out of the box, dual SIM card slots and USB Type-C. Sounds great, right? Just one small problem: they have pushed the launch date back, yet again, to "Fall". Which might mean Christmas. Or later. And this follows the following sequence:

- 2010 (or thereabouts) Saygus V Phone -- never made it to market.

- Q1 2015 -- preorders (with full payment up front) for Saygus V2 to be delivered in Q1 (i.e. by March 2015). Didn't happen.

- 22 May 2015 -- new launch date (very specific) stated by Saygus. Didn't happen. No communication.

- 04 June 2015 -- still no new launch date, I got fed up and asked for a refund. Had to get my credit card company involved to force Saygus to pay.

- June 2015 -- Saygus opens up further pre-orders (at a higher price) via the crowdfunding website IndieGoGo. Miraculously, 80% of their $1 million target is reached instantly (within an hour). Blogs speculate that these orders are simply Saygus' existing list of orders and the company is trying to look good on IndieGoGo.

- "Fall" (2015, I guess, but who knows?) -- new delivery date mentioned by Saygus.

Saygus' PR department is unbelievably incompetent and amateurish. They use Twitter to communicate (although most tweets are along the lines of "We're pumped! Go us!"), and get very upset when every tweet is greeted by a barrage of sarcastic replies and complaints from their long-suffering pre-orderers. The farce of continually-extended delivery dates has resulted in headlines like "Le mirage" , "The Saygus V2 gets another massive delay to Fall 2015 (and a sketchy IndieGoGo campaign, to boot)" and "Saygus V2 Shipments Have Been Delayed Yet Again" .

I'm willing to bet that the V2 won't see the light of day this year, and possibly never will. Glad to have got out of that mess -- I have now bought a Note 4 which gives me everything I want (including Qi charging, via the optional S-View cover).

So, my view on the Saygus V2 has done a complete U-turn since the start of this year. Don't touch this thing, whether with a barge pole or without. If you're tempted by the spec list, wait for it to appear on the market, give it a few months to see whether it actually works, then buy it. As I said, I doubt it will ever actually be sold, though.

Dreamphone? Yep, that's exactly what it is: a dream. Definitely not reality.

Wow. And I thought Oneplus were unprofessional.

Just came across this one !!

Turing phone

I really love the look of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active... shame it's not available here in Europe.

Looking for something very rugged, so may consider the S5 Active even though the lack of wireless charging is a pain. Failing that, I'll get a regular S5 methinks.

Oneplus 2 - Pretty nice features for the price, its just a shame that ordering one is such a PITA (i.e. a cynical 'invite only' marketing ploy).

No NFC, wireless charging, no quickcharge.

Sounds like a 2012 flagship killer!

Moto X Style and Moto X Play announced: http://bgr.com/2015/07/28/moto-x-sty...specs-pricing/

Looking good, though remains to be seen in what form they'll make it to Europe.

Today Moto Nexus 6(64 Gb) available for CHF 399.- @ Digitec

Good deal, but the new Nexus devices should be announced pretty soon. I'd probably wait. The N6 isn't exactly top of the line anymore.

What do you guy think about the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus?

For me the new king of the flagships is the new Xperia Z5 , not for the unecessery 4K screen but all the evolutionary improvements including fingerprint scanner.

Hi,

the very disappointing Samsung devices, including Edge +, I upgraded to the Huawei Ascend Mate 7. I am very impressed with it, especially the battery life. I am running the Google Now launcher. I also have Cortana installed and so I have a choice of assistants.

The new P8 also looks very good and I am interested in this phone http://www.engadget.com/2015/09/04/n...in-early-look/

I see that the Galaxy S6 32Gb is now CHF 599 at media markt, still expensive but a more sensible price.

Have fun

This!

I'm upgrading my Z3 with the first opportunity.

And from the peanut gallery, holding on for dear life, Blackberry is apparently releasing an android handset. Complete with the blackberry hub and blackberry's level of security.

OPT for me has little upgrade, I'm on my 14th month with my OPO running 5.1.1, rooted of course.

I gave up my tablet last year and decided to work on just this device and so far no problem for me. Backup and Restore is also flawless via TWRP.

The problem with slider keyboards is that they add unnecessary bulk to the handset which could go towards more battery life. And with clever typing programs like Swype they no longer even have the speed typing advantage.

Woke up to a oneplus two invite today! Not keen on it though so stuck it on eBay. Let's see how much I get!

Fools and their money are easily parted

Good luck with the sale

Unfortunately the invite is only valid for 24 hours so may well buy the OPT and sell that

£30 for an invite. Feels good man
