- 2010 (or thereabouts) Saygus V Phone -- never made it to market.
- Q1 2015 -- preorders (with full payment up front) for Saygus V2 to be delivered in Q1 (i.e. by March 2015). Didn't happen.
- 22 May 2015 -- new launch date (very specific) stated by Saygus. Didn't happen. No communication.
- 04 June 2015 -- still no new launch date, I got fed up and asked for a refund. Had to get my credit card company involved to force Saygus to pay.
- June 2015 -- Saygus opens up further pre-orders (at a higher price) via the crowdfunding website IndieGoGo. Miraculously, 80% of their $1 million target is reached instantly (within an hour). Blogs speculate that these orders are simply Saygus' existing list of orders and the company is trying to look good on IndieGoGo.
- "Fall" (2015, I guess, but who knows?) -- new delivery date mentioned by Saygus.
Saygus' PR department is unbelievably incompetent and amateurish. They use Twitter to communicate (although most tweets are along the lines of "We're pumped! Go us!"), and get very upset when every tweet is greeted by a barrage of sarcastic replies and complaints from their long-suffering pre-orderers. The farce of continually-extended delivery dates has resulted in headlines like "Le mirage" , "The Saygus V2 gets another massive delay to Fall 2015 (and a sketchy IndieGoGo campaign, to boot)" and "Saygus V2 Shipments Have Been Delayed Yet Again" .
I'm willing to bet that the V2 won't see the light of day this year, and possibly never will. Glad to have got out of that mess -- I have now bought a Note 4 which gives me everything I want (including Qi charging, via the optional S-View cover).
So, my view on the Saygus V2 has done a complete U-turn since the start of this year. Don't touch this thing, whether with a barge pole or without. If you're tempted by the spec list, wait for it to appear on the market, give it a few months to see whether it actually works, then buy it. As I said, I doubt it will ever actually be sold, though.
Dreamphone? Yep, that's exactly what it is: a dream. Definitely not reality.
