Amongst other things, I run a company in West Africa. A lot of the local policies/laws have been drastically changed in the last few years, under heavy pressure/lobbying from the Chinese embassy.

If China made the rules, they wouldn’t even need to lobby.
Nothing beats coercion and extortion. Ask any Mafia boss or dictator.
