If you're ever in Thun, you need to try Kathy's Burger at the Clock Tower Station.

Nothing beats homemade burgers!!

Being from California myself, I too miss a good burger. I especially miss In and Out.

I have never eaten a burger, can't help you.

My husband and I make our own... we even made our own asiago bagels the other day for the bun.

Attached is our own version of the McDonalds McGrison

So what time should I come over tonight? Should i bring anything?

LOL! I would love to have dinner guests sometime

With food like that I dont see that being an problem!

Although I'm not sure about that cheese - proper melty cheddar is the only way to go with burgers!

MAKE THEM YOURSELF!

I just now made AWESOME burgers... at home. Keep it simple.

Ground beef, not too lean, you want that flavor.

Sprinkle in salt and pepper, garlic salt, some finely chopped onion, a splash of soy sauce (or HP sauce), that's it. DON'T KNEAD IT... it needs to stay loosely packed.

Roll into balls, then gently flatten with your thumb.. in the middle to make a small crater (helps them to stay flat during cooking.)

Sometimes I put them on the BBQ, but you know what? It's easier to just put them on a sheet of foil under the broiler in the oven. A few minutes each side, top with whatever cheese a minute before the end (I used gorgonzola, YUM)... That's it!

Juicey tastey burgers, nicely melted cheese on top... toast buns in a toaster or in the oven, add tomatoes, onion, lettuce, pickle, avocado, jalepenos... ketchup, mustard, BBQ sauce, mustard..

You can make 8 burgers like this in about 20 minutes for less that 15 CHFs.

Heaven.

The Gruyères Burger at the Mövenpick Zurich Airport hotel restaurant is the best one I've had here.

Full disclosure: I'm a tiny bit biased, but it's still a super good burger.

The Bite in Kreis 4, close to Langstrasse is not bad at all. However, they do require reservations .... that is how popular they are.

Wow, so many useful answers! Thanks very much!!!

I'll try one out this evening

I just had The Prime Burger at McDonalds. I asked for a fresh one. Superb and only chf 10.90

I tried that one myself the other day and was pleasantly surprised. I took a bite, chewed on it, looked at the burger and though "damn, thats actually a pretty good burger" to myself.

The cheese though, as usual with swiss burgers, is nothing special.

I find it ridiculous that Switzerland is supposed to be known for their cheeses. The swiss cheese all tastes like that disgusting raclette cheese, or its some sort of flavourless cheddar knock-off at the burger places. The worst offence is when they put the swiss raclette tasting cheese on the burgers, without indicating this in the menu. You dont do that to a burger, you just dont.

We have MUCH nicer cheeses in Sweden, a country known for other things than cheese.

Cheese rant over.

Your rant is fully understandable

Godminster Cheddar works...quite rich but it works....

I seriously second this. Was just there last night, and for the first time in over seven years in Switzerland I have found some place that makes better burgers than I can at home. They grind their own mix of meat and it is superb. They cook to order as well, and have a relatively good mix of American bottled beers (I had Anchor porter with mine). They also have PBR.

Hans im Glueck.

Only seen it in Germany but it may be in Switzerland. If not, worth the drive. I'm Australian and there's some good burgers in Australia, but Hans im Glueck is AMAZING. To die for.

Must try.

I definitely agree. The bite is the most authentic and best tasting burger place in Zurich. The selection of burgers and sides are also very creative for Switzerland. Try the animal fries

James Joyce is also a nice burger place. I think the management may have changed recently as the burgers have slightly changed, but they still taste great and i think the pommes may have improved
