Nothing beats homemade burgers!!
Being from California myself, I too miss a good burger. I especially miss In and Out.
Attached is our own version of the McDonalds McGrison
Although I'm not sure about that cheese - proper melty cheddar is the only way to go with burgers!
I just now made AWESOME burgers... at home. Keep it simple.
Ground beef, not too lean, you want that flavor.
Sprinkle in salt and pepper, garlic salt, some finely chopped onion, a splash of soy sauce (or HP sauce), that's it. DON'T KNEAD IT... it needs to stay loosely packed.
Roll into balls, then gently flatten with your thumb.. in the middle to make a small crater (helps them to stay flat during cooking.)
Sometimes I put them on the BBQ, but you know what? It's easier to just put them on a sheet of foil under the broiler in the oven. A few minutes each side, top with whatever cheese a minute before the end (I used gorgonzola, YUM)... That's it!
Juicey tastey burgers, nicely melted cheese on top... toast buns in a toaster or in the oven, add tomatoes, onion, lettuce, pickle, avocado, jalepenos... ketchup, mustard, BBQ sauce, mustard..
You can make 8 burgers like this in about 20 minutes for less that 15 CHFs.
Heaven.
Full disclosure: I'm a tiny bit biased, but it's still a super good burger.
I'll try one out this evening
The cheese though, as usual with swiss burgers, is nothing special.
I find it ridiculous that Switzerland is supposed to be known for their cheeses. The swiss cheese all tastes like that disgusting raclette cheese, or its some sort of flavourless cheddar knock-off at the burger places. The worst offence is when they put the swiss raclette tasting cheese on the burgers, without indicating this in the menu. You dont do that to a burger, you just dont.
We have MUCH nicer cheeses in Sweden, a country known for other things than cheese.
Cheese rant over.
Only seen it in Germany but it may be in Switzerland. If not, worth the drive. I'm Australian and there's some good burgers in Australia, but Hans im Glueck is AMAZING. To die for.
Must try.
