We went to Khans above Zic Zaks in the old town last Friday and thought it was great, a bit on the hot side for the medium curries but very nice - I would highly recommend the Goan Fish Curry
There's also a great Indian just outside Oerlikon on the Tram 11 route, near Bad Allanmoos stop - i'll see if I can locate the name.
My husband said the meal he had at Kerala is the best Indian he has ever had!!! there again he's a bit of a ponce when it comes to hot food so it may not be the best recommendation ever
That was my next question actually, where to buy it here? then just checked the Britshop.ch and they sell it!! great stuff! If you fancy going halves on delivery we can order some - sorry Evolver
You can buy the curry paste in Jelmoli. Its not cheap, but then you use only a third of a jar in a curry, unless you are like me and add it to goulash soup to make a yummy mulligatawny soup.
You can buy Pathak and lot of other stuff from an Indian shop near Langstrasse (spelling). They sell all kind of Indian stuff from soaps, oil, mango, fish, green vegetables, nan breads...even Indian pressure cooker. I don't know the name or exact address. A Sikh gentleman runs it.
The Indian section up the back corner is small but good, good range of pastes, chutneys and separate spices. I like this store a lot. Good to be able to get supplies for Indian, Thai and Chinese cooking at the same place.
BTW I think Pataks and other similar UK based brands are available at Coop and Migros for higher prices.
Not sure if Nina stills looks in here, but here is a list of restuarants and her webpage is good:
The Vulkan on Klingenstrasse? I wasn't impressed. I usually order a jalfrezi to "calibrate" the restaurant. They don't do jalfrezis. So I ordered a lamb rogan josh. And I wasn't impressed. How do you get that one wrong? Some of the starters seemed to have come out of a cardboard box from the freezer and into a microwave.
I've had curries in Goa, Mumbai, U'Daipur (one of which was in the hotel in the lake that is featured in Octopussy), Ahmedabad, Birmingham and Bradford. As well as Manchester and various places in London, including Southall and Stoke Newington.
Has anyone else here had a Goan vindaloo? When I ordered mine, the waiter told me it was "very sour", with a wonderful roll on the "r" in "sour". He wasn't wrong . It was hot too.
Hi folks. I just wanted to report back that I visted Kings Curry near Bahnhof Wiedikon for lunch the other day. I thought 28 CHF was a bit steep for a buffet so I got take away and paid 20 CHF for a generous portion, bread and dessert. I thought it was quite good - spicy! - but only reasonable value. Anyways, Kings Curry is recommended.
In my research, I also happened upon this thread over at Travel Advisor asking the very same question! Lots of good suggestions there as well.
if rustling up your own curry should be up anyone's alley, I can recommend a certain lady who has been doing it here in Zurich for coming to 4 years now.
She does the usual classes in small groups, but will also do a one-on-one session in your own kitchen if you prefer that...
I have no connection with the said lady except that I'm married to her, so get all my curry for free
now.... not to hijack this thread for crass commercial ends... I tried Kormasutra a few months ago and it is indeed very good. It wasn't cheap, but it was almost at par with the nicer places in London, as already mentioned above.
Hi all, I just wanted to inform you about a new restaurant which has opened few months ago near Buhnstrasse called 'Tandoor House'. The food is truly delicious and it doesn't give much burden on your pocket.
The place is very close to Oerlikon, you need to take bus no.75 from there to reach Buhnstrasse.
Dont forget to try Sheekh Kabab there its really luscious.
