The end is near

Meta introduces AI-generated fake accounts so between watching all the ads you can talk to people who don’t exist about things that AI suggests.

It’s like a sex doll for what is left of your intellect. It is disgusting.

According to some, it has already started.

Hmmm, so facebook losing customers will create their own customers.

These bots will look at all the adverts, like all the nonsense on facebook. The advertising companies will pay influencers for fake likes … yet not sell a thing. Can bots consume yet?
The whole idea doesn’t even make sense. Facebook must be in deep shit having to do this. And seriously stupid to make it public too.

signed a very real, never-ever-have-been-on-facebook person.

When I read the title I thougt slammer was at it again , I hope he chears up soon.

It won’t be limited to Facebook, and I doubt that the labelling as AI will last.

There are already tons of AI accounts made by, let’s call them, ‘independent entrepreneurs’.

At least now they’re at least made by real people. Enjoy it while it lasts, the bots will soon procreate.

For the time being a lot of those are still easy to spot (some newbies here were a clear case).

Awww Man!
The thread title was so promising.

It reminds me of the money-struggling sausage maker who could not make both ends meet.

I meant the end of the week.

Seems like this was bullshit altogether.

And here is me getting all excited about the apocalypse.
Bummer!

Wow! And how may one tell what may be on the other end of a chat?

:joy: well in the end in bots and AI universe they don’t need to consume anything except energy and have infrastructure, which wait long enough they can do on their own, so they will just exist and aim to continue existence, humans on the other hand…more delicate and needy creatures prone to conflicts, might not survive future lack of resources…hmm may be matrix movie won’t be far off, just don’t scorch the sky  sun is our friend

Like it or not, internet is dying. I don’t use FB since years, hard to say if they already used fake bots, but for sure effectively brainwashed the users so every thread was meaningless, “our way or a highway” was it from the matrix?

I’m also disengaging from other online communities as it’s visible that more than half of the topics are created to train AI on real users feedback, it’s disgusting, highly demotivating and in the end alienating. With the AI sh* it feels like an apocalypse desert where once was a free speech, border-less community

Unfortunately this won’t stop unless some solar flare destroys the internet and computing clusters to free the civilization again

Iran says hello…

I’m one if those who actually like FB, I use it to keep in touch with friends and acquaintances.
But the amout of sheer AI garbage is getting too much and cor every one usefull post there are 20+ that have no value whatsoever.
The only other place I am active in is here, then a handfull of specialist forums, plotter, history, scifi, to name a few and thats it.
By now it is recognized that there are more dead FB accounts than there are live ones, in short FB is a graveyard.

Long ago I downloaded my stuff and closed the FB account after a friend went down the rabbit hole.

I was using FB very unhealthily. Checking several times an hour.

One day, I’d got fed up of all the crap being pushed on me (shorts etc.) and turned off all my social media accounts. I thought it would be difficult but I actually didn’t miss it at all.

I later did reactivate linked in (which I needed professionally in the end) and then also FB, but now I check it only once every few months. I mainly get pulled in if I need to use the marketplace or write to someone who is only on FB Messenger.

The downside is that I have lost touch with a a few people as FB does make it easier to see what people are doing and connect with them and you have to make an effort to replace that.

One could argue that the internet is dying. It definitely is uncontrollably filled with garbage. But like a garbage dump there it still good stuff to be found. AI bots are definitely no help and hog a lot of traffic these days.
Here is something from Forbes Is AI Quietly Sabotaging Itself—And The Internet?
I myself hardly ever used FB and never liked it much. Some associates still put their pics online there. So I am forced to keep an account to view em.
And if you need to communicate with a millennial or gen Z one must use whats app or Instagram. They never make phone calls.
The internet could be dying. But there is still a website may survive it all. Has not changed for the last 25 years. craigslist.org
Craigslist Is Making a Comeback for Everyday Connections

Another good report on the dying internet.

Basically it has been dying or rotting for decades. But now the main concern is that more than 50% of the traffic now is non human.
