The greed of Swisscom

Now the Bluewin Mail will cost 2.50 CHF a month. No stopping these people at Swisscom.

Then cancel it and get a free email address.

Huh? Not heard anything about that myself.

It’s true though. However subscribers have three months to switch to the “Light-Abo” which is still free. That comes with one instead of up to five addresses, and has less storage space. But I guess you could open additional Light accounts for any surplus addresses you want to keep and forward those mails.

With that said: Nothing keeps you from moving to a different service, GMX comes to mind.

You don’t need to be an Apple user to signup for a free AppleID which gives you a free (unlimited) .icloud account. Aliases are also possible.

Well, I’m already switching over to another e-mail as I assume the bluewin one won’t be useable once we end our contract and move back to the UK.

You better do. In the past I had an issue logging into Apple’s email and when I called the hotline the first firewall was “please give me the serial number of your Apple device”. I told them that I’m logging in from Linux, but the firewall was there to sift out non-Apple users. I gave them SN of my dead iPod, and they solved the issue for me.

Rule No 1. always use your domain with whatever email provider you’re with. Then switching providers it just a matter of the storage/services only, the email is truly yours.

Heres the greed

Meh, don’t use any of that on Swisscom’s site anyway. All my e-mail accounts are gathered on Thunderbird for easy access to all of them in one place.

Yes but you must have a server for your mail.

When we’re back in the UK that’ll be BT. Or mailfence which is where I got my latest e-mail from to replace the Bluewin one with.
