Up until now I have been using a "fitness studio" (spoken in a soft, sighing voice) in Widnau but I have now found a real "Mucki-bude" kind of studio with some seriouisly big guys it is just over the border
52 € a 10er card or 8 € for a singlesession, in a shed with old machines and a fantastic set of weights. In Widnau I was asked to be carefull and
not damage the machines as they are just out of warrenty, here I can make them rattle and clang and smoke, fun, fun, fun. No questions asked and no staring just likeminded people.
They piss you off? I find those groups, great entertainment when i'm on the cross trainer. the best is when they all huddle around 1 guy on the bench, pushing max. 40kgs!
to the OP - we can only analysis the your problem after you post a photo , of yourself , just before you leave the locker room!
Seriously, I don't know that many small yank guys. You are just big dudes, deal with it. There are other issues I have with my gym, staring (yes, they do) wouldn't be on my priority list, cleaning it would, and people washing their hands after they use wc, blech. And, the price, jayzum.
Anyways, if you can, tune it out. If you can't, put "whatchastarinat" on your t-shirt.
I realized one thing, people don't stare if you are just merely different. It's not eyeballing somebody who looks foreign. It is staring at somebody, who does not stare, who looks independent and confident and who looks like he could care less, who makes no eye contact that invite the stares. Or if you make a lot of eye contact and greet everyone loudly, they will quit and mind their own biz (probably thinking you freak or sumfin).
I thought this complaint was about the gym hours..where is my 24 hour fitness? My gym doesn't open till 8am and on weekends closes at 2pm..wtf? People always stare at me too..must be an American thing.
..agreed..mine opens at 6am but I don't have a bus that gets me there on time. In the evening it closes at 10pm and I don't have a bus that brings me back to my place...sure it wouldn't really be an issue walking..but still.
I am so jealous. How unfair, 6am? So my 1200fr gym, horrific, since there is nothing else in the hood, they rip people off with the membership fees, opens at 10am on weekend to close at 4pm. I can get up at 4am to run to gym or 6am, or work out at 11pm to not disturb the family activities, but the gym only functions to fit within the receptionist customer unfriendly working hours.
I tell ya!....but this is my general beef with this country (sorry for taking this slightly OT)....if there are customers, why on earth are they not being acomodated? I used to lived in Canada..in a city not larger than Zurich..they had ample gyms there...and 3 of those were 24h with classes offered at various times so you could get your workout/class/yoga on before or fater work...(or after clubbing ).
And to think, I used to think that they stared at my dashing looks. Turns out, being that large with size 50 feet, make people feel uncomfortable. Wow. I feel better.
Be happy people stare at you. It means you are still alive. One day ..... they begin to not notice you ... and that means you are becoming invisible ..... and that means you are getting too old to be stared at ... anymore.......
Maybe, but this thread was about venting, originally. So keep that in mind the next time you criticize somebody else's post. It made me unhappy that people stare at me. It's happened all my life, and it's bothered me all my life. If somebody sees me more than once, the fun of staring should wear off. That is all.
Whoa there dude, I think the young lady was just saying that she would like to have to opportunity to have a look at pictures of two such fine specimens of the male variety. I don't think she is criticizing at all.
hey huny, cool down! we were only pulling your jock straps.......expect alot of that here on this forum . besides, enjoy the stares, you special, not in a bad way, in a good, tall amazonian way. personally, i enjoy a good portion of any eye candy that the gym has to offer
do you know what is bad, my 5yr old asked her friend's obese mother if she is pregnant the poor woman had tears in her eyes, and i had no where to hide!
I said the same thing once to someone and was a lot older than 5 years of age at the time . She wasn't obese but had put on a fair amount of weight and I knew she wanted a baby . . . The response was a very frosty "N.O.".
