Thermal baths in Switzerland?

I have been to some thermal baths in the Black Forest and am looking for some recommendations in Switzerland - any ideas?

There are many here (I think), though I'm not sure how they compare to the one in the Black Forest.

One of the more famous ones is the Vals thermalbad ( http://www.therme-vals.ch/en/ ), which I thought was quite impressive. It has a lot of different, small pools that each have their own theme (e.g. one has fragrant flower petals floating in it). Most of those little pools are indoor but there is also a large outdoor pool there.

We sometimes go to the Schinznach Thermalbad (near Brugg, in kanton Aargau). I like it especially at night because it has more ambiance. But it's child-friendly during the day. It has an indoor "pool" area as well as the outdoor one. It also has a crazy new slide that I must say is one of the fastest water slides I've ever encountered here in CH. It's not nearly as romantic or ambient as Vals, though.

I definitely want to check out the new thermalbad in Zurich. Looks like it has a pretty amazing view from the pool on the rooftop:

My favorite is Sole Uno in Rheinfelden.

Have been to Vals as well and thought it was great! Specially the outdoor pool with views of snowy mountains in the winter

Some of my friends go to the ones in Baden and like them but I have never been.

Vals and Scuol in GR.

Have heard great reviews about Leukerbad Apparently the largest spa centre in Switzerland? Off this weekend to visit the place will let you know how it was!

A website with info is below....

Leukerbad has several spas actually - so you can sample both the main ones in a week-end. Ovronnaz is great too, and so is Val d'Illiez and also Lavey les Bains.

There is one in Yverdon-les-Bains, and currently there's an offer on www.buyclub.ch for CHF29 for two entry passes! Bargain!

Hotel Therme in Val's.

Stunning location, excellent food and amazing architecture.

Thanks for this info - this is the nearest to us and this in indeed a bargain. Will go next week! Cheers. Even better, with this offer you can buy up to 5 tickets, to be used until end August - perfect.

I had wanted to check out Leukerbad, but had gotten some negative feedback that it was quite dated and not very nice. Would be great to hear your thoughts after visiting!

Will surely let you know, Am hoping for the best , but one thing is quite obvious, staying is not cheap !!!

Alpentherme in Leukerbad

Saillon

Ovronnaz

are some of my favourites

Saillon is good - but the views from Ovronnaz or Leukerbad (in French Loeche les Bains) are so much nicer. Saillon is great at night as it is on the Rhone Valley floor, and looking up at the stars and all the lit villages up and around the mountain is so beautiful.

We are very lucky to be able to do a timeshare swap with either of the above - making it very good value indeed, especially out of main season.

Ok so here`s my take on it. An absolutely breathtaking drive from Basel to Leukerbad especially the last 1 hour. ( take anti-sickness pill if not used to bendy twisty roads as the last 8 miles is up the mountain)

We stayed at Hotel Mercure Bristol which had their own thermal indoor and outdoor pool with jacuzzi and a very well equipped wellness centre. The stay was fab , so were the rooms with the view , (could see 3 waterfalls from bed). Leukerbad is in a valley so the whole town is surrounded by mountains which I personally found very intriguing! Not much to do there apart from long and steep walks if you enjoy that and then get into the warm pool in the evening. Best time to visit is from June to October we missed going to the various passes (gemini and torrent) as they open in June.

I personally loved the quaint little lazy town so will be going back again for sure!

OH BTW great local wines to taste too !

Also a great way to wind down after a full day of skiing in Winter.

Scuol is another good one.

It's bigger than many of the others and also has an extensive sauna section.

The outdoor pool is wonderful, especially in the winter when you are sitting in the hot water surrounded by deep snow. Pure magic.

I can vouch for the Zürich Thermalbad and Spa. One of my favorites (and most romantic) that I have been to yet. The Irish Roman Spa ritual is a must. There is a pool covering the entirety of the roof - it's a breathtaking view of Zurich at night.

There are good and efficient thermal baths in Switzerland. But you have to bear in mind that Swiss people go to a Thermalbad when being in need of it, which means being between "Scheintod&Verwesung" (apparent death and decay) or being somewhat ill. While the Germans go to their Thermalbäder just to relax and recover and enjoy.

As Wolli just said are thermal baths in Switzerland something the Swiss take rather seriously...

I was once with a group of 40 or so international students in the one in Vals and it was a great place. Not sure if the elderly Swiss thought so as well when we were having fun there though... so if you are not in a group expect it to be quiet. Very quiet.

I know the Swiss users cannot imagine that there are things possibly better over any border, but if you are planning some weekend getaway can I highly recommend to visit Austria: http://www.aqua-dome.at/en
