Yup, tail or paw (always front right IIRC) or head. That’s how Dad used to butcher them, even if they were for our own use.
I think I finally realised what the threat is about… apparently citizen trump said (the immigrants) “they’re eating the dogs” in his debate with Harris…
Though in the village where my family is from (in Italy), cat is the typical christmas dish (with polenta). When I was a kid, I decided I didn’t want to eat cat,… so granda cooked “rabbit” one year… I couldn’t tell the difference
From a certain perspective, Trump is right…poor kittens
Just tell us the name of the village so we won’t accidentally have dinner there…
You’ll probably be alright if you don’t spend Christmas there!
I’m safe then, because where I usually choose to spend Christmas (at home or with extended family) we tend to eat the polenta with hearty pork dishes. Perhaps I should invite Spinal over to show the Italians how you do it… They need some education it appears…
There’s not much meat on a cat, though. Seem to be mostly floof. How many do you need for a Christmas meal?
This is a warning, especially to you - we do not wish to see a roasted dog or smoked cat or anything like that on the Photos of what you cook and bake in Switzerland thread !
Pluralis majestatis?
Gaburko isn´t the one who often talked about that.
No, but, IMO, his cooking is on a different level and he shouldn’t be getting any ideas.
…and it was supposed to be mildly amusing until your insipid (but predicable) reply.
Must be my strange sense of humour then to not find it funny.
In all fairness, I got it completely as the joke Tom1234 intended it to be
Most of the Veneto region (Venice’s region) is (in)famous for eating cats. That said, it’s a really old tradition, and short of having a special dinner in a family setting - it’s really really rare. Potentially even illegal now.
Similar to eating sparrows - it’s a delicacy in that region (and quite popular still) - but illegal.
About the same as on a hare… Rabbit’s are meatier.
Keep in mind, Veneto was VERY poor at one point in time, so you really eat whatever you can to stay alive.
While certain protein sources are acceptable during wars and famine, I don’t really get why anyone would like to have this type of meat these days.
Misguided nostalgia? Or is it very tasty…?
Greenmount: A close (Chinese) friend of mine said almost the exact same words, but was referring to cheese and rabbits.
To him, cheese is nothing more than rotten milk; and rabbits are cute furry pets - why would you eat either of those in a time other than famine?
The real answer is - what is “normal” is what we were brought up with. Where I was brought up; eating cats is normal. In some places, eating pork is/is-not normal. In others, “matured” milk, eggs, fish, etc.
To eat their own…
Pork is more controversial than cats. No preacher telling people you shall not eat cats
There was a massive outcry a few years ago when it was discovered that in China, Saint Bernard dogs were being bred for eating.
They were ideal as they were docile, easy to keep and gave loads of meat.
To be honest, to all those “dog lovers” who protested, I think it is much worse to breed dogs with defects such short legs, compressed snouts (smashed-in faces) and so on solely for the enjoyment of the owners.
