Thick hot chocolate in Zurich?

Hi all,

Just wanted to ask if anyone has happilly come across a cafe serving a real thick/rich hot chocolate beverage?

The best one I have tried yet in town was at Café Schober, and while it was nice it was not really to the standards I describe.

Disclaimer: I am aware that what I am describing is more like 'melted chocolate' rather than a drink, and I deal with the calorie conscience in person.

Thanks,

Ella

My favorite places for hot choc are Spruengli, Teecafé Schwarzenbach, Confiserie Honold, Cakefriends and Felix

Indeed! Dear me.. I hope the mods can edit it! Didn't realise - I'm sorry!

No I haven't tried it, so have you? Was it like this?

Cheers

Ella

Spruengli has many options to chose from and yes, I remember the hot chocolate I had was very rich in flavor and thick, almost like chocolate sauce.

you can't afford a hot chocolate this size in Zurich

I think the stuff you're looking for is called cioccolata densa.

No idea where you'd get it, unless you fancy a trip to Lugano.

What about Cafe Felix at Bellevue? Been a few years, but I seem to recall....

Again: Hotel Storchen. Thick, hot and yummy.

My favourite is at Café Schober. I ask them to make it extra hot - and I think that makes it taste so much better than the lukewarm temperature at which they serve it usually.

MÖVENPICK at Bellvue.... so thick it sticks to the roof of your mouth...

Basically a melted chocolate bar.

Memories, memories. Good to know some places still exist

kolse, did you find it in Zurich? I know what you're talking about now, I had in in Frankfurt yesterday. Superbe (didn't eat all day though after it, )

I did some research, did not find it in Zurich (yet). At the moment it seems you need to go to Paris for it (Angelina at Rue de Rivoli) or Frankfurt (Bitter&Zart, just off Römerberg).

If you find a place in Zurich let me know

it's just normal hot chocolate with extra sugar and a cornflour mix, isn't it? Chocolate sludge, basically

And despite that, it's delicious.

This is how I do mine: milk, chocolate powder (Jemalt or Suchard), two teaspoons of Oetker chocolate pudding powder, a bit of cinnamon or orange zest. Nuke it on high for two mins.

No it's not. To be honest I think it's pure, black chocolate melted, maybe with a little milk (or even water) to keep it fluid. It is served without sugar, you add that yourself. They offered all kinds of fancy sugar to chose from (violet sugar, rose sugar or brown sugar, as well as cardamom and cinnamon). She did bring a little milk to add if desired, I added a splash).

Yes, it is delicious

Yea, was trying to cut down on my chocolate cravings, cool, thanks, that ́s torn it

Looks very nice Curley!

Well, I had a cappuchino in the morning and this thing later and that was it. Did my 380km, got home and was not at all bothered by my empty fridge.

So if you do it my way - replace everything else with it - you're okay

Gran Café Motta on Limmatquai has 'Cioccolata italiana' (or similar) which is very thick, almost like a pudding. Maybe that's what the OP is looking for?

Even here it's hard to find, it's really an Italian thing (which I hate).

You can find it in instant at Migros, Coop, etc.

Totally vile.

Tom

Yes, that's what it is.

Vile.

(but I hate pudding anyway)
