Things to do in Zurich when raining

OK, so the weather has been quite capricious over the last few days. As Switzerland in general seems to major on outdoor activities, I thought I would ask what you would suggest are good activities to undertake in the Zürich area when its raining.

This is not a complaints thread, so you can stop your whinging before you even start.

I exclude the obvious cinema choices. Scuba diving is also excluded.

Drinking heavily is a viable choice, but a venue or context would make for a more interesting read.

Langstrasse and peruse the knocking shops?

Im just saving it for a rainy day takes on a whole new crude meaning.

I'm sick in bed today so the weather is great. On my way to the store to buy OJ and grapefruit and other anti-Cold helpers, I saw a man shooting-up between the glass recycling bins and the football pitch. Theres an idea.

I recommend going somewhere and challenging people to games of Foozball. If they're Swiss, they'll call it Töggela (or Tscütterlischaschte - or Töggelichaschte).

Well without wanting to sound like I'm complaining, I've often wondered the same thing myself. Other cities like London are perfectly set up for things to do when it is raining, but not Zurich unfortunately.

Have to disagree with you there mate parking is a lot easier to get when it is raining, and you are going to get wet underwater anyway. Sometimes it's more pleasant when wearing a dry suit if the weather isn't so hot!

OK so we have Art Gallery and Museum, which are worthy pursuits.

Hiking, cycling and in line skating in theory possible, but uncomfortable...

(cue a masochistic cyclist to correct me here)

Yes to Indoor Tennis, Squash, Gym, swimming ....

Any libraries in this one-horse town ?

Migroschule courses in Tiffany stained glass (yes really, I did this)

Copious coffee and pointless-web-surfing the town cafe hotspots

Come on you lot, you cant all be hacking database apps in the rain ?

dave

How did you know what I was doing? You spying on me?

I think the obvious answer is - think of interesting threads to start discussions on English Forum. That's what you were doing after all

Well, I don't know Zurich well enough to give a sensible reply I'm afraid, but in general I'd recommend

1. Pine over failed attempts to revive dead relationships.

2. Hatch plots to assassinate 42-year-old Kevin's...

im guessing you still havent invested in a PS3, right?

Rainy days for me in Zurich are times to go cinema, play pool, skateboarding (indoor skateparks)

You can also go somewhere like Winterthur sand und block and do some wall climbing, beach volleyball, go karting.

Just to make this question even harder to answer....... throw a two year old toddler in to the equation. She's asleep now, but what to do when she wakes up? Oh to be able to go to the cinema! Sigh, I guess I'll have to get the playdough out again

Rather than being on the "Kulm-Ridged Mountain of West-Zürich, on the Trail Of The Lonesome Pine", get your round in fer lads.

great place to go, makes you feel like on holiday^^

yes, it's almost raining inside with monkeys hiding up in the roof beams.

It's actually an interesting place.

Another idea: Go Karting?

Any indoor skateparks in Zürich ? I remember there was a good one in Winterthur, combines with climbing wall etc...

Sad but true: Today I've installed PHP and mySQL. The harsh reality of my setup is that today I'm being a total nerd with the actual plan of hacking a database app tomorrow .

To this end, how about a new thread entitled "How can us nerds put together a website and actually make some cash out of it"? I would consider a snappier title perhaps.

- Play Indoor Paintball here or here

- Alpa-Mare

- Brünig Indoor (great fun, even if you're not into firing weapons)

- Make a Baby

When you find the answer to that, let me know

I'll see you Wednesday then

News Alert: Rain has just stopped

Not by your new office it hasn't.
