Threads, Twitter (X) or Blue Sky?

Threads, Twitter (X) or Blue Sky? Which would you recommend and why? I’d like to sign up for one but not for all of them. Thanks for your input!

Bluesky.

I used to be on Twitter mainly because of the fast news cycle and reposted worthwhile news articles and expert takes. It was bearable despite all the filth there as long as you managed your account and only follow trusted accounts and never look into the “For You” suggestions that have become more and more right-wing.

Have been on Bluesky now for a few weeks. Almost all accounts I follow have moved there even they may maintain a Twitter presence. News and insights as good and fast as on Twitter, but less garbage and hate. The momentum towards Bluesky has been huge, and it in my view is the first time that there is a viable - and now better - alternative to Twitter.

I hope it stays that way.

This is what Perplexity says:

The choice between Threads, Twitter (X), and Bluesky depends on your priorities:
Twitter (X): Best for real-time news and large-scale interaction with 600M monthly active users. However, it has faced criticism for ad overload and controversial management decisions246.
Bluesky: Appeals to those nostalgic for “old Twitter,” offering a decentralized platform with fewer ads and a vibrant community. Though smaller (25M users), engagement rates are high, and it emphasizes user control158.
Threads: Integrated with Instagram, it has 300M users and is ideal for casual, visually integrated social networking. However, it lacks the engagement seen on Bluesky37.
Choose Bluesky for community-driven interaction, X for reach, or Threads for simplicity.

Bluesky was invite-only for a long time and became a leftist echo-chamber; besides, many of its users have a penchant for sharing so called CSAM (child sexual abuse material), so a very “liberal”, indeed. If one abhors any “conservative” opinions then it might be a good bubble for them

Ah, the inevitable pedophelia argument. Speaks for itself.

Plenty of real conservative voices on Bluesky. Not so much the MAGA /populist-right though
at least so far. Plenty of diverse opinions. Big exodus from Twitter, also by institutional accounts.

What did you google to come up with this? I’ve tried a number of keyword searches but there’s nothing that supports:

Reported about in many news outlets. I haven’t looked myself :frowning:

Probably no where, but some selective service that tells them what they want to hear. I have quit all of these BS services and life is much better without any of them.

OK. So ‘many’ seems to be doing some heavy lifting in this story, then.

I must be reading the wrong one

Have you actually read the context within that thread, though?

Dang, even NBC has fallen for the lies Buenzli is supposedly spreading. Bluesky’s growing pains

Just for context:
Bluesky’s 3000 reports per hour adds up to 26 million annualised ie one per user account. The same rate would be 2 billion for Instagram vs the 11 million they actually get.

Not a bad article, in fact. Despite your blatent misrepresentation of it.

I have never seen any porn, legal or illegal, on either Twitter or Bluesky. I have seen plenty of racist comments on Twitter, and the trendline of Twitter was clearly going down in the last year with in my perception blatent promotion of Musk stuff and perceived suppression of moderate / liberal news feeds. For me, Bluesky as of now clearly preferable and does all I ever wanted from Twitter.

Bluesky FTW!

There are healthy car and metal (the heavy one) communities. Also a bunch of scientists. I even found really nice people from geology, hydrogeology and Earth science in general .

Sounds like a place for spineless cowards who have an affinity for calling themselves ‘conservative’ or ‘centrist’ yet are only ever able to call out those to the right of them, conveniently ignoring the left’s excesses and extremism.
And you say you’re on it?

Twitter is vile and toxic. Threads seems a little better.

This might be useful from a more technical perspective. I recognize some of the issues, but they are working on it. For account verification, they have very useful “starter packs” where quality accounts provide lists of verified accounts they follow.

I personally like the more wild west style of Twitter, I don’t need some woke feminist to decide what is and isn’t acceptable discourse for me.

Thanks for your opinions. I’m on Insta (far too much) and of course, they are marketing Threads but I’ve heard wonderful things about Blue Sky too. Thanks for the food for thought.
