Ticket validation issue (Zürich tram)

I wonder if that limitation is even legal. Vouchers for services like travel are valid for ten years, but public transport might be subject to narrower regulations.

Lack of duty to have them doesn’t mean there are no longer ticket vending machines, let alone that the existing ones get removed.

I’d say it’s not. One must be able to get a ticket with cash at least (gonna be lots of fun with tourists if not).
How ever, this link I already posted further up informs that they simply won’t sell multi-trip tickets for stamping the paper anymore. :roll_eyes:

You can still buy your ticket, at the tram/bus stop or train station, with cash. Which crucial part is no longer possible?

It seems to me that the two of you are talking at cross purposes.

I get 600 francs per year for transport subsidy from employer. I get a numerical voucher, go to a SBB ticket office, get a pile of 6-travel tickets and use them between home and office.

It would be nice if I could use the voucher directly to buy tickets on the SBB phone app, but no. So, stuck with the paper tickets.

Hope this time (end of 2025) they are gone for good. It’s been 2-3 years of the same story about the end of orange machines and nothing has been effectively done yet.

Consider asking for REKA cheques instead. They can be also used for train tickets, but also for fuel at certain petrol stations (Ok, that’s kicking the can down the road, but still) and other stuff.

For how many years from now? There are more and more places that do not accept cash. It’s the new reality. You can get your kid a bank card and twint from the age of 10.

Funny that you name driving as an alternative for a person who has neither credit card nor smartphone. What kind of person is this?

Log in to SBB.ch with your SwissPass account and buy a ticket. It will be loaded on your SwissPass. Or you can print it, if you want. Then you don’t even need a login.

If you want to buy your kid a ticket, log in in his SwissPass account and buy a ticket. It will be connected to his SwissPass card. The kid can show his SwissPass card to the ticket inspector.

Never mind, just this: It is not about stamping a tramcard in the morning.

edit: Checked the current Swisspass situation, seems they were forced to adapt quiet a few things after it started and by deactivating the SwissID login (I remember that, didn’t realize that was in 2021 already) a big step was done too.
All in all I’d conclude that people using public transport regularly don’t get around it anymore.
Which I consider as bad. It should be a service to - no doupt - the numerous people who like it but not a must.

Don’t get what? Even junior card is now on SwissPass card.

I think the sort of people Curley is referring to are very unlikely to have a Swisspass login.

For kids the multi-pass is useful. They can operate the validation themselves and the ticket is good for a week or two.

It’s also flexible if they carpool with a friend and end up not needing to validate.

Consider installing SBB app. It’s very easy to use. Swipe right before you start the travel and swipe left once finished traveling. Fare for the distance traveled automatically gets deducted from your bank.

I think you could get full refund for the unused tickets.

Not everything is available on Swisspass. People for example who work for public transport companies and their families have the old style blue GA/Halbtax cards still (which for some bizarre reason can’t be put on the Swisspass) and receive ticket offers in paper form.
