It is reality since the first ever Android version. Why would I buy a Linux computer where only someone else gets root? I have to hack it just to be able to do basic maintenance…
The other way 'round: most people would fuck up their phones in a minute with root. Still remember that guy in my office that always worked as root and then typed things like “rm -rf blabla *” (space instead of dot)…
Now if you are able to inspect an application yourself you should be able to root your phone and do with it whatever you want. For most people the block of apps probably is better because their phones will be less likely to be hacked.
Google really lives up to its new standards, no more “don’t be evil”.

I was planning to replace my Android with a later version but now I will hold off for a while.
If Google lives up tio its usual standards then it will block legal apps and allow the others.
One time I worked for a firm where the workers had to show a card to a reader to enter the building.
They down sized and blocked the cards of the no longer employed.
Of course, they f-ed up and the people who no longer had a job were allowed in and the rest of us were at the nearest pub.
