Hello
I would like to know if anyone knows anywhere where I can get the rear windows tinted black on my BMW X3?
It's primarily for blocking the sun in the back for our small family members and for privacy of my wife when nursing our baby. Would anyone recommend somewhere, ideally located within an hour or so of Zurich or Zug? I am happy to travel further if the price and quality is right.
We would also be interested to know how much this costs generally and what amount of shading we are permitted. Is it 75% maximum?
Also, how long does the procedure take to do?
Thanks very much for any thoughts, suggestions and recommendations.

Might screens not be a tad cheaper?
No idea, ask a dealer?
If the windows do not already have a tinted film, them maybe you should try doing it yourself and avoid some costs.
The tinted film on an old BMW I owned started bubbling at the 12 year mark. I decided to replace it, removing the old film was a major pain, installing the new film was easy. I removed the door panels, didn't really have to, but I upgraded the speakers at the same time.
Here's a video that shows how easy installation is...

It really is that easy and if you mess up, pull it off an try again. Amazon DE sells the 3M Crystalline Series (the best of the best) and it's not expensive.
70% is maximum (have to allow 70% of the light). Only rear (side) windows are allowed.
Probably just a personal feeling, but people with tinted windows might get more checked on "random" police checks
And they're a pain in the neck for the rest of us .... might as well have a truck in front of you ...
Please note that i had my windows tinted when I ordered my car, also because of my daughter. I did this instead of blinds in back. From the outside the windows look really black, but once inside it doesn't really help against bright sunlight, so I've had to revert to stick on blinds. I don't know what percentage they are. PS your car dealer can arrange for after market tinting, but then I guess you'll have to pay a premium.
No maximum for rear passenger windows. I have 95% .
You cannot tint front passenger windows and windscreen. Others is up to you.
try a place in canton Aargau or Solothurn. they seem to have much experience there.
Hi, one suggestion would be to use sun shades instead of a film. I have them on 2 of my cars for exactly the same purpose as yours. They are easy to install and remove, relatively fine in blocking the sun and can also protect against mosquitoes since windows can be opened with the shades on.
Although a bit pricey the Climair shades are in my opinion 5/5 quality-wise. They are available on amazon.de (try searching for "climair sonnenschutz bmw x3").
Same here - although it is on our "cheap donkey" which was bought used - 12 years old!
The ideal solution is tinting + built in (side) rear window blinds - but you're looking at 300-500chf for that - depending on the manufacturer. I did have one car with a rear screen blind!
Just stumbled across this post and thought I'd mention that we offer tailor made car window blind sets in Switzerland (manufactured in Brexitland):

If a pitch black pimped out look is not so important for you, then these blinds offer more advantages than aftermarket tinting, as you can keep the rear door windows open whilst still benefiting from sun, UV and insect protection. They can also be removed at any time.
PM me if you have any specific questions about the BMW E83/F25 set.
Any additional wind noise?
And what sort of price for a car? (Range)
Nope, no wind noise as they do not flap around (the fine black net is tension mounted on a steel wire frame). Not recommend to drive over 100kph with fully opened windows though.
Price range with current spring discount is Fr. 170 - Fr. 220. Most family SUVs and estates are around the Fr. 199 mark.
What I meant was - with the blinds installed - and the window full closed is there any additional wind noise due to the mounting of the blind? Or is the blind entirely internally mounted?
It's most likely a landaulet roof.
Nope, no noise as they are fitted onto the interior side of the window:

And an extra 5 points to anyone who can identify to which car model this door belongs.
That was a red herring. It's actually a BMW X5 but the door frame construction and blind are virtually identical to those of an X3.
