we went through this recently and my observation was the main theme was "how well are you integrated?"
we were asked what do we do on weekends?
do we participate in local clubs (sports or otherwise)/activities?
do you know the other people in your commune (we have 1 small child so we know the other parents)?
this will vary commune by commune but that was our experience
To show how different different Gemeinde can be, in contrast to naza, we were not asked anything about integration, to my astonishment. Our Gemeinde combines knowledge test and interview which may be the reason. We spent a bit of time on motivation in the beginning. We took this to be the qualities of the country (stability, values, community etc.) and our personal value of our Gemeinde (location, culture, shopping, transport) and wish to remain in Switzerland and take part in its future.
Other than that it was all knowledge questions - we were only thrown by an out-of-brochure question about who was on the 5 Franc coin! They gave a crucial clue thank goodness, a Swiss hero, then Wilhelm Tell was an easy answer.

OMG that is too good! If only we had known... still, not sure we would have informed them their information was wrong!! We have now got our "Gemeinde accepted you" letter so the wait for the final confirmation begins.
A bit of trivia: The first copper-nickel 5-Franc coins were minted in 1968 (which is why there are sheetloads of them around, ending the run of silver coins in the 50rp-5Fr category.
However, some 1969 5-Franc coins were minted in silver. I got one in my change once and ended up giving it as a present to my sister :-)
