I hope this is the right section to post this in. I'm a big fan of the Tiptopf cookbook, when I need a simple, solid recipe this is the book I turn to. I have a younger brother who has just headed to University in the UK, and he's started to gain an interest in cooking. He is a super novice and I'm looking for a good starter cookbook similar to tiptopf that is in English, and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions?
Never heard of Tiptoft (I'm guessing it's in German? ) but as a good basic, covers-everything cookbook you can't go far wrong with Good Housekeeping. Mine's 30+ years old by now, but is still my bible on many things.
Do you think he would like the simple, clear explanations in Tiptop or the style of food in Tiptopf?
If he wants easy, fast recipes but something a bit more interesting/exotic then Nigel Slater's Thirty Minute cookbook is pretty good.

I think he would benefit from the clear simple explanation style of tiptopf, to allow him to master some basics.
Clare Wadsworth's first cookbook, "Chicken Pie, My Favorite", was for her daughter when she went to uni (and I think one or two others for later children). It's got some great simple recipes and comfort food.
My quick search only found her facebook page (and a very old blog). I'll see if I can find a website too.
