Trail running in Basel

Very grateful to find such helpful information about the hiking trails and the swimming pools from earlier posts.

Excuse my ignorance, but we will be moving to Basel in a few months and most of the trails that were spoken of were outside of Basel. I understand that the Swiss Alps are a good distance away from Basel, so I know I will need to take transportation to run there, but is there any trail running around Basel?

Thanks,

Lou

I'm not familiar with Basel so hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in, but I would it find it pretty hard to believe that anywhere in Switzerland doesn'thave immediate access trail running. There are trails everywhere. Single track stuff is a little tougher to find, but every patch of woods seems to be crisscrossed by a network of unpaved paths.

There are tons of trails on the doorstep of Basel.

Just south of Basel (and I mean 10 mins on the tram) you are in the Jura foothills, which are pretty hilly.

There's a very active running club if that's your bag, or just keep asking questions here.

You will not be short of hills to run up.

K's of them....

NOt only are there hills in Basel and forested ones on the edge of the city, but if you start running in the centre of Basel, within 15 minutes you are in a forested hill in Germany, at the edge of the Black forest.

THe Basel trams can get you to the forests of France within ten minutes as well.

Meeting up with runners from the Basel Dragons Running club, and/or the Basel Hash House Harriers, with help you become familiar with places to run, very quickly.
