Hello. My 7 year old girl and I will use tram almost everyday to go to her school. There seems that a variety of pricy tickets are available but I was just wondering what tickets are most cost-effective in our case. I have found the following travel cards. If possible, could you kindly show us your ideas? We would mainly use trams in Basel-stadt and Basel-land.
Junior travel card is the way to go for your child. It's like 35 CHF/yr but the child needs to be accompanied by a parent during the travel. Both parents keep the card on them and present it when controlled.
You just need a half-price card for yourself.
Just a suggestion without more info. Hope it helps. That's the way we go...
The yearly one is great, 12 months unlimited travel in the TNW, for the cost of 10 months.
Even if you say you only need 10 months anyway (school holidays), invariably those 2 months are dispersed across calendar months and you will have to buy tickets during the off weeks if you don't have a yearly or monthly U-Abo.
The huge benefit is, no more messing trying to buy a ticket while running for the tram. One ticket for the year, on the phone.
I find the TNW.ch website better than the BBB.ch one.
So in summary, do the maths, and don't forget the convenience factor.
I don't think this is right. The accompanying parent must have a valid ticket. The Junior Card is valid in the same areas as the halb-tax card. But the parent does not have to have one.
We didn't get U-Abos for our children until they were in they were needing to travel unaccompanied. Until then, the junior travel card is a no brainer. The third and subsequent children are free!
