Tram pass in Basel

Hello. My 7 year old girl and I will use tram almost everyday to go to her school. There seems that a variety of pricy tickets are available but I was just wondering what tickets are most cost-effective in our case. I have found the following travel cards. If possible, could you kindly show us your ideas? We would mainly use trams in Basel-stadt and Basel-land.

- U-Abo https://www.bvb.ch/en/billette-tarife/u-abo/

- Junior travel card https://www.sbb.ch/en/travelcards-an...ravelcard.html

- Halbtax https://www.sbb.ch/de/abos-billette/...e/halbtax.html

- General Abo https://www.sbb.ch/de/abos-billette/...a/ga-kind.html

Thank you for your support!

Junior travel card is the way to go for your child. It's like 35 CHF/yr but the child needs to be accompanied by a parent during the travel. Both parents keep the card on them and present it when controlled.

You just need a half-price card for yourself.

Just a suggestion without more info. Hope it helps. That's the way we go...

Thank you for your suggestion. So helpful!

Everyone I know has the U-Abo.

The yearly one is great, 12 months unlimited travel in the TNW, for the cost of 10 months.

Even if you say you only need 10 months anyway (school holidays), invariably those 2 months are dispersed across calendar months and you will have to buy tickets during the off weeks if you don't have a yearly or monthly U-Abo.

The huge benefit is, no more messing trying to buy a ticket while running for the tram. One ticket for the year, on the phone.

I find the TNW.ch website better than the BBB.ch one.

So in summary, do the maths, and don't forget the convenience factor.

Should be 'BVB.ch'

I don't think this is right. The accompanying parent must have a valid ticket. The Junior Card is valid in the same areas as the halb-tax card. But the parent does not have to have one.

We didn't get U-Abos for our children until they were in they were needing to travel unaccompanied. Until then, the junior travel card is a no brainer. The third and subsequent children are free!

Wow! U-Abo seems also attractive. Total cost calculation is hard by myself. I will contact a TNW.ch representative. Thanks for your help.

Thank you for your follow-up message. Until unaccompanied, junior travel card seems super.

It looks like the junior card for your daughter, and the U-Abo for yourself.

How many tickets are you buying yourself per day for the school run?

Dear Harness, thank you for your suggestion. I will buy two tickets per day. Thank you for your support!

Ok, so that's probably @chf7 per day, or @chf140 per month (assuming 20 days).

Therefore a U-Abo @chf80 per month is going to save you money and stress.

And you can use it at weekends etc, for any transport in the TNW zone. For example the train to Rheinfelden is covered, etc.

Depending on your circumstances, holidays, covid19 etc, consider the yearly pass, or try a montly one to begin with.

Get the app and you don't need to use the machines anymore. You can buy them just before you board.

Dear Harness, thank you so much for calculating our costs and additional useful information! I will safely buy appropriate tickets. Thanks a lot!

Thank you for letting me know that app is available. It would be so convenient. Thank you.
