Tram routes ( Basel )

I have a fast question about tram routes with an answer that's probably obvious, but I can't seem to find an answer. Is the 21 route on the transit map a tram line? Or is it something else? Is there any advantage to the 21 over the 1 if I'm trying to get to Bahnhof St. Johann from Brombacherstrasse or Novartis? Thanks for any help - I just got to Basel and am trying to get oriented.

Play with the journey planner.

I guess what jrspet was trying to say in his inimitable google-fu style is ...

Yes, it's a tram. It runs during peak hours only.

Yes, there's only a few a day and because they're irregular they're normally pretty empty. Just go for the Tram 1 and if a 21 turns up a bit earlier it's a bonus

Here's the timetable from Brombacherstr. - there's only 17 a day Mon-Fri, and none at weekends: BVB timetable . If you want timetables for other lines/stops, go here .

It stops about 4 metres nearer the Bahnhof door.

If you've got a load of bags or a pushchair, then the 21 is a pain. It's one of the old fashioned trams with no low section.

I don't know if it becasue it is smaller, but it always seems to drive much faster than the 1/14.

Great, thanks for the help everyone.
