Can anyone explain the rules of the use of tram tickets between Vevey and Villeneuve, via Montreux.
The tickets are valid for a certain length of time printed on the ticket, and can be used, within the area designated at time of purchase, in either direction. This means if you are a quick shopper you can use the ticket as a return. Much cheaper!
So far, so good. The ticket can also be used to travel by train - and I believe by boat.
So my question is:
Can you buy the ticket at a rail station using a Demi-tariff card and then just use the tram, bearing in mind the Demi tariff card doesn't work on the tickets issued on the tram?
Looking at the website, there is a zone system in the area, and the tariff will depend on how many zones you visit on your journey. There are reductions with the half fare card. You only get the exact 50% reduction when traveling over 3 zones or more. Minimum ticket price is Fr 2,20 you can buy your zone ticket at any ticket machine for VMCV in the area.
"Platform 7" abonnement for teenagers is not recognized.
There is also a Surf card with a 10% reduction. It seems to work like the Oyster card in London. You buy an amount, then present the card to the machine and buy a ticket with the card. The balance on the card is reduced accordingly.
Children and animals are also half fare, bicycles require the same fare as the rider. Animals carried in baskets are free and children under 6 years old are free. Children aged 16 to 25 are entitled to half fare if studying.
There aren't any trams so I figure you mean the trolleybus.
(1) Yes you can, I've done it a lot. Only annoyance is that I can't see any way to validate a day ticket multipack on the bus other than writing it on in pen, so to avoid hassle I've tended to stamp it at a railway station if intending to do that. Though doing that yesterday caused me to miss a bus...
(2) You can buy demi-tarif tickets on the bus using the ticket machine, just select the reduit or 1/2 option when you do.
All public transport in the Vevey-Montreux region is in the "Mobilis" joint tariff and tickets are valid on all modes for journeys entirely within the zones.
And yes you can use the "single" tickets for a quick return journey, they're valid for a period of time rather than a single journey. It actually says as much on the posters at the stops.
As noted the "Voie 7/Gleis 7" subscription (a youth discounted ticket) is not valid on the buses, I think it's an SBB only thing.
Lol agree with Pacer142: please explain us where you see a tram line in this area !?!?. Unless by tram you really mean "trolley bus". Actually there was a tram line in this area but it was dismantled in the end 50s (just like all Genevan tram lines but line 12).
The most important zones in this area are:
Zone 70: Vevey / La Tour-de-Peilz / Corsier
Zone 73: Montreux / Clarens
Zone 77: Villeneuve / Villeneuve Shopping Centers / Veytaux
Going from Zone 70 to Zone 73 (or vice-versa): buy a 2 -Zone ticket
Going from Zone 73 to Zone 77 (or vice-versa): buy a 2 -Zone ticket
Going from Zone 70 to Zone 77 (or vice-versa): buy a 3 -Zone ticket
Apologies to all who wish to use the correct name for the vehicle. It is of course a trolley bus; there are no lines in the road. BUT, I refrained from using the correct title because all the locals, including the drivers, call them trams when I speak to them in English.
I think I fully understand the zone system. My problem was the ticketing. Now I am clear. I use the demi tariff card to show an inspector why I have purchased a half price ticket from the machine. I don't use the 'oyster card' system because I don't trust it. At 74 years old I would probably make mistakes.
Thanks everyone.
PS am I right in thinking I can use the boat, from Vevey to Montreux say, with the same trolleybus Demi tariff ticket? The usual price is far higher, even with the Demi tariff, I think.
Whats the difference between bus and trolley bus? In Geneva we have normal buses (bus?) and buses with those weird cable touching thingies (trolley bus?). But all bus numbers can be one or the other and there are no difference in tickets. I thought every city was the same?
In the summer there are enough boats to make the journey pleasant one way. Also our cocker spaniel loves a sail! And if she sits on my wife's knee she travels free.
