My husband is a resident of Switzerland for the last year and holds British nationality. I am UK citizen as well but currently still in the UK. We have both signed up to do "Tour du Mont Blanc" walking holiday (goes through France, Italy and Switzerland) in August for which we would like to take out an insurance cover that includes helicopter lifts etc. (god forbid if needed). I am already covered through an annual travel insurance policy of UK but my husband just has his Swiss health insurance cover.
Can you recommend some additional cover that my husband can take out for this holiday?
thanks for posting replies. I did a google on REGA and it appears that it only covers Switzerland. Please correct me if I am wrong. What about accidents on the French or Italian side? My husband will also speak to his mandatory health insurance provider in Switzerland to find out if rescue operations are covered or not. In the meanwhile, if you have any other recommendations please share with me.
The TCS closes an important gap with this service and can help the 700,000 holders of the EIT-letter protection in an accident or illness at a comprehensive, professional service from a single source. In January 2011, the TCS was founded in the medical department of ETI Med, the judges all cases and providing experts. Thanks to EIT Med and the involvement of the AAA, the TCS provides a complete assistance.
No English language. The ETI is offered by the Swiss automobile association.
Do the sellers of the holiday offer an insurance? If they don't then maybe ask yourselves if it is wise to do this. Personally I would not take such a holiday unless there was a locally qualified guide with you.
About 25 to 30 people die every year in the Alps, usually because of poor equipment and lack of local knowledge. Mont Blanc is very dangerous as the weather changes very quickly.
We are doing the trip with an organized group "Neilson Adventures". They are a UK based company part of "Thomas Cook" group. I'll check with them if they provide insurance but I would have thought that you'll need to be a UK resident for that.
Thanks for that Rob. My husband is a swiss resident in the sense that he pays his tax there and holds a work permit. Otherwise, he is British citizen. We'll speak with Rega.
