Travel insurance

Hi, would anyone have any advice about the most cost effective to get travel insurance? Is it worth to get a platinum credit card? Or should I look into family packages from insurers and resellers (e.g. Allianz, AXA, Postfinance…)?

Thank you in advance!

If you can get the platinum card for free? If not I´d think that some insurances or TCS offer a travel insurance for less cost.

The insurance business has got really complicated - it is difficult to know what you really need and what is superfluous. Generally your basic health insurance should cover you for treatment abroad up to twice what it would cost in Switzerland - The USA is an issue here. Cover with credit cards etc - read the conditions carefully. My house insurance also covers theft abroad. Often people are way over-insured, I have used Smile for extra insurance but there are plenty of others around - a years additional insurance is usually much better value than getting a one-off policy for a trip

When considering travel insurance, compare family packages from major insurers like Allianz or AXA to find the best coverage at a good price. Platinum credit cards can offer benefits, but ensure the coverage meets your needs.

For the fee you pay for platinum cards you can get a really good insurance elsewhere.

Be careful with Swiss health insurance, we had AXA insurance and it didn’t cover health costs. We now have Allianz travel, which (with the right package) covers health and pandemic costs above your normal health insurance.

Also check if your employer offers you insurance for health cost abroad, mine does and that also is valid when traveling not for work.
