TBH, I can't remember which passports we used. And the information given is not 'false' - it is what happened- we were asked for proof of residence. We didn't go into a long conversation with the guy about whether he was entitled to ask or not in International Law ... we just complied, and he sent us on our way, and we were glad that we had asked our Commune to give us 'attestation de domicile'.
So my advice is to take your residence or work permit - just in case.
Anyhow, we will be on our way early in the morning- and if we get turned back at the Tunnel- we will go to Alsace, find a nice little Hôtel somewhere and drink Glühwein ...Or Bruges, quite fancy Christmas in Bruges.
Back to topic here - travel restrictions. We have decided to run the gauntlet and try- if we get turned back at the Tunnel- we will go and spend Christmas and NY in Bruges ... see how it goes.
As long as you have the correct forms and tests there’ll be no problem travelling to the UK.
It’s getting into France on the way back where you may have a problem but even then it’s unlikely as long as you have all the necessary tests within the specified time frame.
Yes, this is what I think and hope. But you never know if you come across a 'job's worth' with some axe to grind ... everything crossed. And we have plan B, just in case. Car's packed, just going to French Chemist for tests and attestation late afternoon.
I certainly hope you get to the UK. I was really just saying that if you travelled on your Swiss passports in your Swiss registered car, then you wouldn't have any doubts at all about getting there and home again.
Only 6 days until Christmas, and on Friday Switzerland relaxes travel restrictions from the UK and elsewhere, and today Germany joins France in excluding the UK and other countries. Hoping the Swiss border remains open.
Yes, just seen this and wondered whether I would have issues coming back to Suisse after Christmas in the UK.
The German restrictions currently don't apply to German citizens or foreign residents, so if Switzerland does follow suit, I'd assume that would also be the case with Switzerland as well; residents with a permit would be allowed back in with perhaps stricter testing and quarantine measures after arrival.
Yes, for sure. I'm assuming that they will resist closing the border, as the confusing changes to entry regulations over the past few weeks were enormously damaging to the tourist economy, and the mountain resorts desperately need Christmas bookings this year.
