Not sure to post here or to post in the pet corner.
Anyway, after being here for about 6months, I realized I have yet to see the other parts of Switzerland. So middle of Feb. I decided that I’m going to take 3 days/2nights and travel to Bern, Lucern, and Zurich with my Dog. I’m using Bern as my mid-point (hotel will be there for 2 nights) to travel to the other places. I will take the train (as I don’t drive )
Any places you guys recommend that is NOT on trip advisors “top ten”. I have given a look and made a list of things that are pet friendly to do. But for the locals that live there, the little “hole in the wall” places people over look that is worth going? If not, oh well. I will enjoy my time either way
For any of you that has traveled with a Big Dog, what was your personal experience?
I guess I’m not really looking for help, just really excited and just starting conversation!
What most interests you, cultural, historical, natural, pastoral?
Weather in mid Feb could be anything from early Spring to bitter cold and snow, so you might want to think about variants, particularly for doggie. Assuming doggie is well adjusted and disciplined, should have no problems. There are places dogs are not allowed in, but they are usually marked at the entrance.
I went last year with my dog around Switzerland and no problem, really.
yeah, there are places where dog's are not allowed but there are more of them where dogs are allowed.
the only thing that makes me angry each time, is that in my 13 months of living here, I have paid public transport ticket for my dog maybe 30 times, inclusiv 10 times for longer sbb travel, but I was only 2 times asked to show the ticket for dog. even when I was with a dog and had only a ticket for me, no one asked for a ticket for a dog. and I don't show a dog ticket until someone doesn't ask for it.
that makes me angry. either ask me each time, or just say - no need for tickets for dogs.
Hmmm.... completely forgot about bringing photo gear... I might just settle with the iPhone camera. Only because I don’t know if I want to carry around the huge camera (Sony DSLR). But idk, maybe it will be worth it?
My dog loves the snow, he’s built for it. So weather, I don’t mind: snow or shine. (Just hoping it doesn’t rain). He is also very well behaved, doesn’t bark at dogs that at barking at him. He was raised in China and is accustomed to crowds of people, and anything really.
I do plan on him carrying his own travel bag! that way he can carry his own stuff
He loves it. Couldn’t ask for a better travel companion.
Interests...hmmm... I do like seeing nature, culture, buildings, landmarks and such. I’m not crazy over museums, which I learned that most of them don’t allow dogs in for some reason.
Doggie is just plain Beautiful. People, not always.
I prefer the DSLR and a couple of lenses, but that can be a bit much to carry and keep track of all the time. Perhaps better to document this trip with the phone which may help plan for the DSLR on another more photographically dedicated trip with good light. Dragging good gear around in the rain and grim skies is a bummer.
Zurich, Bern and Lucern have charming old towns, cathedrals and the lot. You can stroll around and select what interests you more.
