Traveling to Montreux (Caux)

Hi! I'm will be traveling from Geneva to Montreux (I'm not from Switzerland) and as far as I know Montreux is quite small. How can I get from Montreux to Caux specifically? I mean, what is the best and the cheapest way?

Grateful for any help!

There is a "Golden Pass" train service from Montreux to Caux with a journey time of 20-25 mins. For most of the day trains leave every hour. A 2nd class Mobilis ticket costs CHF 3.60 and is valid for 2 hours. A day ticket CHF 7.60.

Thank you so much!

One more question - is there no other way to travel from Geneva to Montreux (or even better, Caux) other than train? I'm looking for other options but my google skills are failing me this time.

Train is certainly the most convenient way to make that journey, especially if you will be arriving at Geneva Airport as the station is right at the terminal. A taxi would be very expensive, and would take about the same time to Montreux. On the other hand if you have plenty of time, you could take one of the Belle Epoque lake steamers which take 4h30m for the cruise, or up to 6h20m for the services that involve changing boats at Lausanne and Vevey.

I was just looking for cheaper options, but you're right, seems like taking the train is the best one so far. I can always try blablacar too...

Thanks again for your help!

Basic rule here is that - If a train connects two places - there will be no bus alternative. Trains connect the longer distance, busses join up the smaller places.

So Geneva to Montreux has a direct train link, so no bus. Train / Car / Boat only.

try supersaver ticket for geneva-montreux, up to 50% off

Yes, if low cost is the criterion then BlaBlaCar would be the option of choice if you can find a driver travelling on the date you want, at a time that is convenient for you.

Ah, got it, will keep that in mind.

Is it better to book a ticket beforehand or can I buy it just before the train leaves? And the prices for tickets are fixed, right? So they won't change on the day of departure in case I don't want to buy it beforehand

Thanks, will certainly check

Yes, train ticket prices are fixed except for discounts for special events. I usually buy tickets in advance just because if my flight arrives late I may be rushing to the station platform.

The cheap local rental car company is called Patric Location. Maybe it will be cheaper than a train full price, especially if there is more than one traveller.

Many thanks to everyone for useful tips
