Trip to Canada

I am planning to visit our daughter in Canada soon. I have a swiss driving licence and plan to get the international one today.

According to the rental car terms that I have read on-line all documentation has to have been issued at least twelve months ago. I have not been able to get an answer out of the rental car company as to whether this applies to the international driving licence. Does anyone have any recent experience?

I have rented in Canada with a Swiss licence, no international permit needed (Hertz).

You can use your Swiss license to hire a car in Canada no problem, I do it all the time. There is no need for an international license. And anyways, I think they are concerned with the date of initial issue, not the date you most recently received a physical card. The date of issue on my most recent Swiss license is 2023 (I got a replacement card this year), but the date of deliverance is 2003. (Which now that I think of it is odd, I got my full permit in 1997.) I have been able to hire cars abroad using this license without any problems.
