Of course, Rubles weren't worth as much as Fr.5.- so the machines were adapted to refuse the larger coins. Result - we all had to carry around a purse full of two franc pieces to pay for our tickets and probably missed the train fooling around with them. And if it happens that I need a purseful of 10 Rappen coins to put into my shopping trolley that will be my first Thread in Complaints Corner.
Now be careful with all these brilliant ideas. I remember only too well when some bright spark started using Russian Rubles in the SBB Ticket Machines instead of five franc pieces. The earlier machines took only a Fr.20.- note if they took notes at all and it had to be one in good condition and fed in to the machine the right way round so Fr.5.- pieces were very used a lot.
