The sad part is that most likely the fakes and 'the real' LV bags are made in the same Chinese factory. And the production cost of the real bags is a tiny fraction of what they LV charges for them.
There are factories in China that are stealing designs and styles devised by a large and well trust brands.
What is the point of these fakes?
1. To make money for the faker
2. To con innocent buyers into thinking they are getting the real thing
3. If not 2. Then for buyers to show off making their friends think they have a really expensive bag.
4. To destroy the hard work and enterprise of Companies that built up business on such brands.
You may not approve of LV's and the Swiss customers tactics. You may think it fair to cheat legitimate businesses. But The OP received what is in effect stolen goods...
Not too mention the poor dupes who thought they'd bought something geuine. While this is prob not the case here, if fakes are so easy to purchase in HK, I can see why someone would not see a problem in sending it elsewhere. Even then, the recipient is not the criminal.
The OP simply has had no chance to prove their innocence, and LV is using legal threats in the hope of shutting them up.
I'm not defending LV by the way, but I can totally understand why they are doing it, every other woman in zurich seems to carry a LV product, including school girls, I can't believe they are all real, so the luxury brand is being diluted down to nothing
What you haven't said is whether you asked your cousin to send it to you or was it something like a surprise birthday present wrapped in "Happy Birthday" paper with a note saying, "Happy Birthday, My lovely cousin".
i.e. were you intentionally planning to handle counterfeit goods or was it genuinely a surprise?
I would like to remind those people who find the current status-quo regarding the enforcement of intellectual property law not very funny, that all these laws get mostly made by democratically elected governments.
Next time you can vote, remember this thread.
Most certainly, you can also vote while not living in your home-country.
I'm sure I read something about the Italian police stopping people at the borders and fining them / confiscating any counterfeit goods so its not just here you get in trouble for it..
