Well, it's not my problem any more. I gave it away.
We will get it fix for lower than 200 euros so we are ok with it. Meanwhile, hubby got a brand new 46 inch tv. We will use the repaired one as a second tv for guests or playroom.
4/5 months ago, we had the same issue with our Samsung TV. I opened it up and looked for damaged capacitor (one with swelling or disfigurement of the outside shell casing) and noted down its number. Went to CONRAD shop at Dietlikon, asked the guy at the counter for a new capacitor with same model (costs 2-3 CHF). it just worked fine after soldering the new one.
if you don't have soldering iron, you can get it at Conrad for less than 30 chf. go for one which works on low power as you do not want to burn a hole in the board, unintentionally.
(google search came in very handy in finding the cause of this issue)
So we bought a new Sony. Got it last Tuesday. It's very nice, husband is happy. The remote, however has a freakin' football button. Eventually, we'll program it to work with a universal remote, so that's fine.
Funny thing EXACT same thing happend to our Samsung LCD TV. Purchased in 2009 (so not THAT old).... we ended up buying another one but hope to fix ours. Did you ever get yours fixed? how much and who fixed it?
Nah. I was tempted to open it up and try to fix it, but I gave it away to someone to play with.
Indeed, had to replace some caps in my scope, as well as in my daughter's boyfriend's synth, this year. Seems that switchers are rather sensitive to this, linear supplies not.
Also, caps aren't always visible damaged, and weren't in these cases (though the ones in the scope were getting HOT). In the case of the synth, it's a known problem and found a writeup on the internet.
