1. In some train wagons there is a special button with the mobility-impaired icon near the door. Assuming that it facilitates something for people on wheelchairs (leveling the door with the platform?), are we allowed to use the same button when we have a child trolley/buggy? I have been "surprised" from time to time seeing the unlevel exit against the platform when getting out of the train with a trolley :-/
2. Are children (e.g. from 2.5-3 years old) allowed to get into a train or bus without a trolley, either in their parent's arms or taking a normal seat? I just wondered about this since the rule regarding child seats in cars is pretty clear and strict.
Yes you can use the wheelchair button but as far as I know does it only open the doors for a longer period of time.
For the second question. Yes, they dont need a buggy but if the train is crowded take them on your lap. This leaves a free seat to others who paid a ticket. If the train is not crowded they can have their own seat. But please remove their shoes if they stand up on it.
The SBB website allows you to search for those trains with level exits, i.e. flush (or almost) with the platform.
Go to https://www.sbb.ch/en .
Enter your start and end points.
Then, don’t click on “search for connection” but instead select " advanced search ".
There, scroll way down to " barrier-free travel " and select " restrictions apply ".
Select " independent boarding/alighting possible " (it has a wheelchair symbol).
Only then click on " search for connection ".
