I sorely miss a good sturdy standard 3 ring binder to file my junk in.
and whats with the crazy open-handle-system. Makes it brutally impossible to insert pages on the left side.
albeit I do like the hold-down locking dohickey, but would abandon it in second for a 3 ring binder.

I did always want a Trapper Keeper when I was a kid though. They were too high budget for our Scot blooded mom.
The two ring one you are describing sounds like the German DIN standard binder, but the Swiss " Bundesordner " are very similar... for more than a century.
The 2 ring hole punchers are more common here which makes it easier to put paper into the 2 ring binders.
I understand the strange attachment to the three ringed binder. I always found that I tear individual sheets out of 2 ringed binders much more easily than out of a three ringed binder, because the hoops were just too close together. I always have to buy those reinforcement rings for my papers.

But as anything else, you get used to it or you stop using it. That's why I use an accordion file folder. No rings to worry about there. And you can get huge ones too. Doesn't help too much with those 700 page documents though...but that's why digital copies are good for.
You press the little tabs at the ends of the metal strip to open the rings. The b1tch is that the split in the rings is in the middle, and the closing action is not very positive. If you want to open to the middle of your documents there's a good chance that you'll snag one or more of the rings, opening them and big mess ensues.
It's definitely easier to rip out sheets from a 2 ring binder, but that kinda defeats the purpose of having a binder.
I need the extra comfort of a 3rd control point for my leaves. The two-rings are too close and have that extra degree of freedom which allows the sheets to leverage-rip themselves out much easier.

What I did miss is are hanging files, they're not so common. But I'm over that and have come around to the plastic envelope things and normal Swiss (or German, as shown above ) binders.
Hanging folders are definitely a miss. Do they know what their missing here. Without them I haven't found an efficient way to use my filing cabinets other than to breed gerbils and hamsters.

i now just pile everything on my desk. then it's at least in roughtly chronological order.
You'll be thrilled to hear that in Australia, although two- and three-ring binders abound, there exists also the rare and strangely inviting four-ring binder. Lacking a hold-down dohickey, it is simply twice as difficult to use and unreliable as a two-ring binder. Like most native Australians, it features a small pouch, in this instance located inside the front cover.

Same as the 2, 3 and 4 ring binder, but better for many reasons.
