UBS banking - date formats and a bit of a rant

Has any one else experienced a problem with the way in which UBS online banking displays dates? My language setting is English and online my dates are shown in US style, ie MM/dd/YY. My bank statements are okay as they are dd/MM/YY (and are in English too).

When I queried this with them, they told me the dates are set by the language setting.

I recognise it's a truly first world problem. On the other hand, I spend a lot of money with them, they can't give me access to see my partner's spending in our joint account and the number format is "wrong".

Has anyone managed to get around this or is it just me?

I managed to solve my UBS problems by changing to another bank long time ago

Well, it is due to your settings. It shows up fine for me but then I use the Germn date setting.

Why is it a problem?

Which browser are you using ?

I guess your browser language setting is English (United States) so dates from some applications will use this as a formatting instruction.

I use the UBS website in English. Dates are shown with DD.MM.YYYY format. I have no idea different formats existed. Maybe it's because I did the contractual part in French and then just switched the website to English.

Anyway, you can download almost all tables from the UBS website to Excel and set the date format as you wish.

I prefer the ISO standard largest to smallest: yyyymmdd. The easiest to sort.

Unix time is even better. Increments every second!

I can see my partner's spending, and also my kids spending. Just had to sign a power of attorney letter or something.

Both my wife and I have unlimited access to our UBS joint account. I think you need to talk to your client advisor.

Thanks for all the replies! Yes, that might be the answer. And she is the one delight from a mediocre but expensive service.

Hi there,

yes, the date problem can be annoying if you're not used to US date format.

By the way, are you happy with all other aspects of UBS IT?

I find it weird how many inconsistencies they've got in staff-IT interfaces:

1. Privacy settings seem pretty much random- my wife sees my credit/debit card activity.

I'm not authorized to see her activity. This is on a joint account.

2. Mortgage payment reminders sometimes arrive after the last day has already passed, and once with a new mortgage we couldn't anticipate how much was it going to be, so we've missed the first payment.

3. Very often the staff wouldn't have a clue how to set account properties appropriately.

For example my credit card was switched from automatic deduction from the account into an orange invoice and no one in the branch had any clue why this happened or how to reverse this account setting.

I wish I could remember more examples, as there were many.
