UBS subcontractor hacked, UBS employee contact data leaked online

Reputable sources are pay-walled, so only option left…blick.

Hackers put data of 130,000 UBS employees on the darknet

A hacker attack on the Zug-based procurement service provider Chain IQ – a UBS spin-off – has far-reaching consequences: According to a report in the French-speaking Swiss newspaper “Le Temps,” personal data of around 130,000 UBS employees has ended up on the dark web. CEO Sergio Ermotti (65) has also been affected! His internal phone number is visible on the dark web, but it cannot be dialed from outside, as Chain IQ clarifies.

The attack, which originated from the ransomware group Worldleaks, became public last week. It hit not only Chain IQ but also 19 other companies. The hackers claim to have stolen a total of over 1.9 million files containing almost 910 gigabytes of data. The published information also includes a separate file with over 230,000 invoice items from the Geneva-based bank Pictet. According to the report, client information was not included.

Chain IQ has now responded, informed the authorities, and alerted affected business clients. Founded in 2013 as a UBS spin-off, the Baar-based company operates additional offices in Europe, Asia, and the US. In Switzerland, in addition to UBS, Manor and Implenia are among its clients.

On one hand, not good that the too-big-to-fail bank has these issues. On the other hand, maybe phone spammers will be busy bothering people from the new leaked list.
