Is there a way for a disabled person to get from the S10 stop on Uetliberg to the Uetliberg look-out tower (Uto Kulm)?
We want to take my 85-year-old father-in-law up there to see the view, but he cannot walk up the steep part from the station to the tower base.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Contact the hotel, Uto-Kulm, and see if they can send their electric car to pick you up. There might be a charge for the service or you might be required to make reservations (perhaps just for a meal) to access this service.
There is a bus service from the station and Uto Kulm
There's no "bus" service. The hotel has an electric car they can send down if you ask...
Another idea might be to check if you can "rent" a wheelchair for the duration of his visit. I know that some "Samariterverein" rent equipments. Maybe you could also ask a Altersheim (nursing home) or a hospital. Might help you as well for the other days in getting around. search also here on EF this topic has been covered before.
How are you going to get him up the tower?
(Your post suggests that this is your intention).
btw just saw that there is a wheelchair on offer here at EF for CHF 50.-. That might be cheaper than renting
It's a rough and steep track to push a wheel chair up.
(Going down should be fairly fast though, but not without thrills for the grandfather).
I understood it to mean that the OP will just wheel him up to the base of the tower where there's a more readily accessible viewing platform.
No, he will not be going up the tower. We just want to get him to the viewing area around the tower base. He can walk well, just not uphill (or up many stairs) due to a heart condition.
Thanks for the idea, but he definitely won't go for that. It's a tricky balance between what we think he needs and what he is willing to accept.
This^^^
From your description of him there's no way he'll make from the Station to Uto-Kulm by foot, and the little electric car is really going to be the only way up for him. As for a wheelchair, even if he did go for it, I certainly wouldn't want to be pushing up, and moreover trying to hang on to it on the way back down. It is quite a steep ascent.
