UK elections

I don’t care much about the UK, but I like reading polls. And that is quite some poll.

Oh yeah, he’s the archetype of a sneaky, narcissistic politician.

It was a silly woman who wanted her fifteen minutes of fame.
She even said she didn’t know why she did it.
It definitely wasn’t a political statement.

Thanks for explaining what I can, or cannot write on the forum.

Nothing to do with honour - it’s UK law which I was discussing.

People shouldn’t be absolved of responsibility because they attack someone who most people don’t care much for.

Yeah, so not much of a threat isn’t it.

That’s not really how it works in law.

It’s the intent and not whether the liquid is banana milk shake, hot coffee or acid.

Which is…? You said it was a “silly woman” so what kind of intent worth mentioning here she might have had? I doubt she wanted physical harm to your beloved Farage.

Thank you for explaining me what I can understand about British politics and what not. But darling, do try, you’re not that complicated (or sophisticated, judging by your gut reaction) as you think you are.

One more time - it’s not what I like or don’t like (and I’ve never expressed political views on here but if you want to know - I don’t like Farage and I was dead against Brexit).
It’s a matter of law and to that end -she has been charged with assault and causing criminal damage and at a later date, will appear in court.

You can’t have different laws for people you don’t like. Why is that difficult to understand???

OMG, if you really cared about the law as you seem to imply here, you’d knew this case is as thin as a paper sheet.

So what does it cost to dry-clean a suit and tie? The banana shake probably cost more.

I don’t know…ask the immigrants Garage seems to hate so much??

I was not a Blair supporter but I did hope he would use that huge majority to make a difference.
Sadly he did nothing major (Intentional pun).

You really are missing the point, aren’t you.

If I came over to your neck of the woods and threw a milkshake over you - would you just laugh it off? You don’t need to answer.

I once had a McDonalds milkshake thrown at me (including the cup) from a car when I was cycling in the UK.
If a Policeman had seen this and asked whether I wanted to prosecute, I would have said yes. It wasn’t a pleasant experience at all.

The UK is a democracy. Politicians should be allowed to campaign without assault, in any form, however abhorrent their political views.

Really??? Are you sure about that? Would you say the same if it was the Swiss involved? May I remind you of the disgusting public rhetoric about the Italian immigrants in the Switzerland now the “secondos”? Too close to home innnit?
You said I “can’t understand”. I dare you to prove me wrong.

A milkshake is a molehill, this discussion has elevated it to Mt. Blanc status. (Which is a really lovely pink this evening).

Do you really believe that we should not allow campaigning by anyone we disagree with?

Just askin’. Why is this thread under Daily Life, Swiss News and General Topics and not with the US election thread under Debate corner?

Asking for a freind.

You just moved the goalposts. I won’t argue against this sinister character anymore but even the brits must have some rules re. freedom of speech.
Obviously you can do whatever you want on your island, I am sure not many people will pay attention anymore.

Not really. I wasn’t really following the discussion but just saw your post and thought that perhaps you should read it back and see what it seems to be saying

FWIW I, like many others, share your opinion about Farage, but also agree with Tom, that however much one may take delight in seeing someone like that humiliated the perpetrator should still be prosecuted to the full (i.e. normal) extent of the law.

There is no justification for this sort of behaviour, however much you may disagree with a candidate’s views.

Nobody was saying she should get a free pass for what she did, however I would disagree that she should face an ‘exemplary punishment’ for who he is. This was common assault and the maximum custodial sentence is 6 months, n.b. normally just a fine if its a first offence.
