It’s a site that looks like it was designed in the 90s as a high school project - but it’s essentially the S100, S105, etc filled online. They then submit it for you.
Costs £15, so is substantially cheaper than my accountant… and about a fourth of the snazzier sites.
I used to use the online portal to submit it from abroad even though that wasn’t really recommended or allowed. I then later used various online tools. There are many different providers and it cost me around £35.
Then I decided that I wasn’t going to waste money on that and just send paper forms now.
Phil - that’s the part that surprised me. Surely the paper forms costs HMRC more to process than an online submission? I’m surprised they don’t offer a digital submission directly.
That said, at £15 it’s not much more than the cost of mailing a paper form as registered mail, so I tried one of the online sites…
Well, I think you are able to do online submissions with HMRC, but they only cover the very basics. For example, they don’t cover the very common example of a non-resident landlord.
