UK Visa for Swiss Spouse

Good Morning Everyone,

I heard UK visit visa for swiss spouse is free. Is there someone who can validate this information? My wife is swiss national and I hold C-Permit(Pakistani Passport) for last couple of years and have unlimited job contract. Kindly share the link or process to execute visa application. Do I need to visit UK Embassy for application submission?

Thanks again and have a nice day.

Regards

Your Swiss Spouse does not need a U.K. visa. You can spend 6 months in the U.K. with a Swiss passport visa free.

If she wants to stay longer, i.e. if you are moving there:

(And by the way, a google search is really quick)

But you will need a visa.....

Yes, as a Pakistani national you’re the one who will need a visa to visit the UK, not your wife.

@snoopy

Thanks for quick response. See below the comment of other people, that was the reason, why I ask for expert opinion. You cannot relay on google.

I went through the above link. It says this about the free family visa

“If your family member is from another European country

You may be able to apply for a free family permit if your partner or family member is from the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein. They must have been living in the UK before 1 January 2021.”

So, you only get the free visa if your spouse is living in the U.K. and was there before Brexit.

Yes I read the same. That means, I need to apply for standard visit visa with normal fee?

Yes

You can rely on google to provide a list of sites. Some of those will be links to gov.uk sites. And those should be your first port of call. If you still can't figure it out, then fair enough, ask here. I've noticed that "using google to find information" is quite difficult for many people.

Except the first listing on Google was the UK government website, which is about as authoritative as it gets...

Thnx Problem is that, most of the people know official websites. But information is not clear crystal. The domain of this forum is to share knowledge/personal experience not just google and paste.

I doubted the information provided till now is incorrect. Above mentioned info is for EU settelemt permit process. Sorry to say but yours was totally wrong.

Anyone who go through process can share his/her experience.

Wasn't it the case not so long ago that a google search for visa application stuff would send you first, if you weren't extremely diligent (google ads), to "fake" websites which would charge you a fortune for what is basically a free service?

A direct link to the government page from a helpful soul on here can be extremely helpful.

Except that there is a link in there that says "Check if you need a visa". That might have helped you. But whatever...

There was nothing wrong with the page, it was totally applicable.

Hello Swisspak,

I did the research for you on Google and these are official sites

You can start here:
https://www.gov.uk/check-uk-visa

And if you can’t find the answer then give them a call, details via the link below. They are very helpful and I’m sure will be of greater assistance than google or most people, myself included, on this forum.

Do you have a British Passport?

How long do you want to stay for?

Neither the UK Embassy, nor the UK Consulates in Switzerland handle visa applications. You have to go through their approved agent, who are or were “Worldbridge Services”. This information will be divulged to you once you complete the online application (from which you have to print out a PDF and perhaps also colour printouts of passports, so it’s only semi-online, but I digress).

From memory:

Spend time on the UK Visa website, to work out which visa application or applications to make, which can be confusing.

Complete the online application.

Print it out and all the supporting documentation.

Once that is all done, including maybe paying for it, make an appointment at the Zürich office

https://pos.tlscontact.com/zrh_en/

or the Geneva office.

As of 2020 I think you needed to have everything printed out for the appointment. By then The UK Foreign Office had heard of The Internet, and it was no longer necessary to put your printouts in a envelope, pay the courier fee, only to have the documents scanned at the UK end. Instead, the docs are scanned at Worldbridge.

Thanks for sharing valuable information. It will be 2-3 weeks.

Ok
