Ultra runners Zurich

Hey all

I moved to Zurich last year and am a keen ultra runner and now training for 2011 events has now started I wanted to see if there are any other ultra runners out there (new and old) who would be keen to complete their long training runs with some company at weekends?!

And also show me some good training areas?

Be good to have some company when out on longer runs. So if your interested give me a shout!

Zara

Hey Zara,

I would like to run some ultra events this year. Would be great to have someone to run with. Im living down in Gstaad though, but I would be willing to travel to get in long runs at the weekends.

Later,

Kieran

Hi Kieran

That would be great.... although I had to google Gstaad to find out where it was! ha!

I am definately keen to travel for some longer runs, probably couldnt manage it every weekend but definately would be good to train in some new places a few times!

Have you done many ultras before, what events you thinking of doing this year?

Zara

ask this girl: she knows the scene..

she lives around Baden, which is about 20 - 30 km from you, but you could warm-up by running to meet in the middle

Awesome thanks for the link! She does look like she knows her stuff thats for sure!!

A really nice local run, mainly off-road, and from from Zurich is up to the Uetliberg and then along the top of the Albis ridge.

After the Albishorn you can either cross over to Wadenswil / Richterswil and get the train back (S2 or S8) or carry on to the Etzel and the down to Pfaffikon SZ and get the train back from there.

(Of course you could just run back).

I'm up for some ultra running, I haven't ventured much beyond marathon distances yet though.

Excellent! Where are you based.... its easy to build up from marathon running! would you be up for a 3+ hour run one weekend? how often/how far do you run at the mo?!

Ultra-running might suit you - it is a slower discipline

I'm hopefully going to do the Graubunden Marathon this summer - which in my book tips over the 42km flat - and into Ultra running.

There are a couple of us training for Zurich over the next few months - so I suspect training runs will be posted in the diary - AtoB and AtoA style.

I am thinking of Bellevue to Uster (about 23km) in the next couple of weeks - following the marked paths.

Let's compare ages and youthfulness young man.....

Got me there grandad

Hey Zara,

Am not sure where you are in your training at the moment and what events you are planning to do this year, so the following may come too soon. However, there is a "guerilla ultra" being trialed by some of the keener Zuri runners later this month. Am not sure if that is of interest.

The great thing about being so central is that there are plenty of classic European races out there to be done and you usually find people training for them specifically.

I know there are a couple of really decent runners on the forum from 10km up to ultra distance, so best of luck.

Cheers

Next time you're sitting on my knee son we'll talk about our Greifensee 2010 times and reminisce....

.....and while we are at we can discuss your senility - and how it makes the Sylvesterlauf so challenging

I've really tried practicing counting to 4, but I just can't seem to get beyond three. Besides, my time for 3 circuits was pretty impressive with the Zimmer....

Hi,

I actually live in Lausanne, but I will be up there for zurich marathon in april. It would be great to meet some other ultrarunners then. Ive got swiss alpin, verbier st bernard and UTMB on my calendar this year. Cheers,

Craig

How is your training going for Davos?

I just looked at the calendar and it is getting worryingly close.

Best of luck

Dear All Runners

I run regulairy in the oerlikon Area, so Käferberg, Höngerberg, Katzensee etc. and would enjoy some company on the runs if anybody is in that area.

I do fairly long runs as well, so for the more spirited souls out there which talks about hours i would properly also be interested in joining. As long as it is not on pavement.

Best

Fred

www.guerilla-running.com has 2 events already lined up for 2012. There will be more to follow - including the Glarus 50 (50km around the Glarus valley), a shorter Toggenburg run and most probably a Tran-Zurich run.

They are all designed to be suitable Ultra training runs.

Well, if you're up for this Saturday:
