Unemployment Benefits while working partime

I have not been able to get a coherant answer from my RAV person. My questions is, if during the 18 month period of claiming unemployment benefits you work 50% for some of the time, does the unemplyment benefits period extend till you have used up your quota of money? Hope this makes sense. Thnaks

Yes your months are extended pro rata. You need to advise them what you have been paid / earned from your 50% job.

Exactly. I've just been to their orientation and I know for a fact that when you work part time / have a temporary contract which pays you less than the chomage, you're always paid the rest by the Employment Office. You just have to tell them about your job and the money you save this way (say 50%) you'll get once your unemployment quota's been used up (usually after 12 months). So don't worry, you're covered.

Are you able to claim unemployment only if you are Swiss or for EU too? Please PM me if you are aware of how this works. Thanks

Everybody who has worked for 1 year during the previous 2 years is entitled to unemployment pay, 70% or 80% if you have children.

www.rav.ch

Not quite, Everybody who has CONTRIBUTED to the system for a minimum od 12 months during last 24 months is the actual criteria and tha tis providing you do not own the company you work for. If you own the company and pay ypourself a salary, you still pay but cannot claim.

I am sorry but this is not 100% correct. I know for a fact that Switzerland has bilateral agreements with a bunch of countries and citizens of those countries are entitled to the benefits if they "contributed to the system" in their own country. The list, however, seems to be kept secret, so you only know what you can get once you've registered and contacted the Kasse.

(So many people answer questions like this using that phrase and it makes me really sad. For some reason you guys think that it's only fair to claim help if you've already contributed. You know what? If I ever get into the system, I'll be contributing like hell. But for that I need a job. It's so narrow minded to consider anyone asking about unemployment benefits a leech on the rest of you. I've never made use of all the health benefits I contributed to in my country and could have hated everyone who went to see a doctor. I'm sorry, I just had to say this here, as it seems to be the norm on EF to think like that. It's nothing personal, you may not even have used the term like that and my opinion's intended rather for those who think their precious system is a one way in game. )

I pointedly did say the system, i did not say the Swiss system.

Incidentally even if i had specified the Swiss system, my post way accurate as the Swiss system recognises payments that have been made into other systems therefore it is part of the system !

Concenring you comments about who has contirbuted and who has not, even if you have not contributed there is a social security system that is far less than chomaage but still there in cases of need. It is more controlled also. It is only fair that if you contribute you profit from the system, ther eis already enough abuse with this !

Do you know if that's 70% of the most recent salary, or 70% of the average over the 2 year period?

I am pretty sure it is the average. And a lot of other details as it is capped (so you will not get 70% of a 150k CHF salary), the first five days of unemployment are not paid (so the first month is only 75% of the 70%)...

Nobody is having a go. On the contrary, we're sharing information. Anyone who criticises the unemployed here ought to tread carefully. Things come around.

Sorry guys. As I said, no offense intended. I was not really thinking of you, simply summing up my views on an attitude that seems to become more and more widespread.

As to questions about the chomage , a couple of points that were clarified this morning:

- They take the last 12 months you worked during the last 24 months and take the monthly average of that amount.

- If you quit your job on your own accord, be prepared for all sorts of nasty questions and penalties.

- If you haven't worked in Switzerland, you're practically not eligible for courses. There are fewer and fewer, and those having lost their job in CH are served first. Then come those who are covered by the benefits (lost their job in another country that's covered), and last those who are like me, moving to CH after quitting their jobs. (It needed some clarifying on my part that I haven't moved to CH to go to the ORP and get paid -- there you go again -- nor to have them find me a job, but with my husband, because I had little choice.)

Well, I hope this helps.

70 or 80% of average of LAST 12 months earnings.

Being freelance I can be perminantly in the 'system' as I do on average more than 12 months work in 24. However any months of Zero or low earnings are included so it can be better to have the last 3 months of Zero (then ignored) than zero, zero followed by 500 chf! I found this out too my cost! Also with freelance earnings whilst unemployed if you earn 69% you will be given 70%/80% of the 31% on top. However if you earn 70% you get nothing.

My employers never understand why sometimes I will give them a discount & other times not.

lol!......
